Scrapbooking and YOU

PPPI’ve been scrap booking for years, something I haven’t really let people in on. In my new home I don’t really have as much room as I used to in order to really take full advantage of my craft. Because of this, it’s been placed on the back burner. Or…so I thought. I like the idea of cutting out random images and turning them into a book of collages on my life. I’ve yet to start one for Baby and I which is strange considering we’ve been together for as long as we have. Hopefully I’ll be able to regain everything soon to move forward with it.

In the meantime I did some poking around and came across an interesting site where you can do some real online scrapbooks. With this site you’re given everything you need in order to create a virtual scrapbook. You’re given textured backgrounds, random cut-out images to paste into them and the ability to upload your own images to really bring forward the whole scrap booking experience. I started creating my own scrapbook, you can find it here. I know there isn’t very much to it but that’s because it’s after 2am and I’d really have to sit here and play with it some more. I hope to have a full scrapbook up and running sometime soon. I really do like this idea quite a bit.

There’s the option of embedding it into your website with either a flash or a JavaScript file. For the time being I’m just going to link directly to it because WordPress, for some reason, won’t allow me to paste it into the text area. I’m sure I’ll have that figured out soon, I may have to create an external template page and link it in there. No real hassle though, considering I intend to use this site quite a bit.

The site has a very scrap-booky feel. It’s not a standard business looking site that’s clean line and proper. It looks as though you’re actually looking at someone’s scrapbook. There were a few sections that wouldn’t work but at the moment it’s in it’s Beta release so I guess that would explain it. The Gallery icon doesn’t work and I can’t find anything when I search but the database isn’t big enough for that yet.

All in all I can say it’s going to be a fairly cool site and I think that if you’re interested in starting your own online scrapbook and getting away from Flickr and whatever gallery script you happen to have installed, heartvault.com is the way to go. It’s completely free and may turn out to be the next big thing amongst all the artsy people that over-run the internet. Check it out, you may enjoy it.
