Helpless…

I’m feeling a bit helpless at the moment (if you couldn’t tell by the title). Baby has a really bad ear infection that’s got him in a mood. I know he’s in a lot of pain but he’s not doing much to fix it. He’s had ear infections his entire life so this isn’t anything new to him. He has to tap on his ear to be able to even hear out of it and he’s done nothing to really medicate himself either. Antibiotics are a must when you have an infection, there’s also a pain killer or two in the house that does a lot more than regular aspirin does but he doesn’t seem to be taking anything. He says he has, but I haven’t seen him do it so I really don’t know.

Right now he’s across the hall sleeping. Bella’s been in the room with him sleeping by his feet and I’m sure that’s going to bother him at some point considering how warm it is in the house. He’s been sleeping on the floor because the bed has really been messing up his back – he hasn’t left the bed in HOURS though. I may wind up turning in early tonight just so I can be up tomorrow in case he needs anything.

I just wish that there was something I could do. You can’t get a stubborn man to go to the hospital if he absolutely refuses. No matter how convincing I can be with him, nothing seems to work. I’m kind of stuck here and don’t know what to do.

    I’m going through this. Last night kevin and I were talking about this cone thing you can get from like nature stores or health food store type places. Apparently you put this cone in your ear and light the other end and it burns and filters out the junk. It sounds interesting.

    I’ve had the chronic ear problems too and just got back from the ENT doc. I told Kevin I remembered my mom would blow her cigarette smoke in my ear when I was a kid. Yes, it’s redneck and probably not healthy at all, but it took the pain right away.

    I let this go and go and now it’s pretty bad. Tell the bf he needs to get to a doctor or at least make an er visit before it gets full blown.

    My boyfriend is the exact same way, a few weeks ago he was at work and got a piece of metal in his eye. He wouldn’t go to the hospital because “It will fall out on it’s own”. After a few days of him dealing with the pain he went and found out it was much worse.

    I really don’t have any advice in your situation. I suppose if he’s stubborn and wants to let it take it’s course then let him. All you can do is try.

    That’s awful, i can understand your worry. You just have to face that if he doesnt want help you can’t force it on him. You never know he could have his own reasons for not wanting to take medication. Hopefully it’ll clear up with some rest.

    Ah. Men. I’d be worried too. Drug him and then drag him to the hospital.

    ::hugs::

    Ugh, that really sucks. I would be worried too. I mean, I freak out when I see a new spot on my skin, lol. He should really try to go to the doctor though–it might just be something as simple as a lot of wax buildup–my uncle had that.

    I still get ear infections all the time. Sometimes I’ve had to take an antibiotic, but usually I just flush my ear with peroxide several times a day. Put it in, let it bubble and then drain it out. I’ve heard this might not be the best way to go about it, but it works for me.
