Halo 3 Beta

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Someone left a comment today that I felt I should respond to, to avoid future confusion.

My boyfriend is currently a beta tester for Halo3, he was chosen by Bungie (the games creators) since he’s been playing for so long and I guess he’s got so many awards in his database or something from playing the game. I don’t know how it works so don’t ask me. Being selected by Bungie was one of two ways for users to be a beta tester for Halo3, the other way to do this was to purchase the game ‘Crackdown’ and then go from there. When the beta first started, crackdown members were having trouble accessing the game and weren’t really able to play until about 12-13 or so hours into the beta. Up until then Baby had already been playing for a few hours anyway.

The game is actually fairly interesting. He’s running it on my HD LCD so the color quality really is pretty good, he’s got some extra fans on his XBox360 that make things pretty loud in there, this is why I’ve been in the living room while he’s playing. It sounds like there’s a mini motorcycle idling next to the television.

I have no idea what they’re actually doing – I just know they shoot people and whoever kills the most gets more points for that round. Right now the only thing out for the beta is multi player, there’s no story mode.

Those who were unable to get involved in the beta, based on what Baby has told me about the game – the price tag will be more than worth it. I believe he’s already put a down payment on the pre-sales, they don’t come out with the actual game until September, maybe I’ll be nice and get it for him as a birthday gift, who knows.

But yea, to answer your question Mark – it looks really cool, graphics are great and minus a very noticeable lag at certain times of the day – Halo3 is probably going to trump the previous games – dramatically.

CRM Software

Friday, May 25th, 2007

As someone who runs a business I understand the importance on keeping in touch with customers. Email is great and all but sometimes talking to someone one-on-one through programs like AIM or Yahoo tend to make things a bit easier. That’s great for support but when it comes to sales it’s a completely different situation.

As a designer, I go through approximately 40 emails a week on price quotes. I always wondered how previous bosses were able to keep track of everything from email to phone conversations regarding each individual client, and their client list was obviously a lot larger than mine at the time. I was unaware of the fact that they were using lead management software. Software like AIMpromote has helped users keep track of their clients from the very first “Request a Quote” email. Quotes are submitted to the database with the push of a button and even if these are phone based clients, any company sales member can access the database to submit the new information. It’s a pretty cool program, one that I may actually consider in the future if things ever take off a bit more.

Can’t Concentrate for S#!*

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I didn’t really want to but I wound up falling asleep after I posted earlier this afternoon. The Midol took it’s toll on me and I wound up crashing for around 4 hours. Because of this, unfortunately, I’m certain I’ll be awake a lot longer than I planned tonight. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get in bed around 3AM but I’m still a few hours behind on work at the moment so I assume that’s not going to happen. I’m very out of it today, I feel almost like a zombie. I randomly just start staring into space and I’m beyond exhausted at the moment so I hope I’m able to kick these feelings soon because it’s more than likely going to screw up my weekend.

I still have some emails and what-not to go through. I guess I should get that taken care of, maybe I can get my concentration in order.

They just keep getting better!

PPPI’ve been paid-blogging since September ’05 and it’s worked out rather well for me. It’s nice to log in and poke around to earn some money on things that interest me. I’m involved in about 8 sites at the moment and I’ve brought in quite a bit of money from each one of them. I’ve also been contacted directly from advertisers looking to have me review their website without having to go through an outside company where I’d lose money on the deal. The problem is, a few of these advertisers never came through and I just stood there waiting in the wings for my payment to come through while they were enjoying all of the hits to their website for free. Those that did actually pay went through Paypal and one insisted on using an eCheck that took about a month to clear – it was too much of a hassel for me to deal with.

I joined a review site a little while ago but I’ve yet to receive anything as far as work is concerned. But I’ve also found out that they keep quite a bit of money from your review so in the end you’re really not making much at all. Another site that I’m involved with takes 35% of my bid. The issue with that is there are a lot of advertisers only looking to spend $5 on a review but then they require 200 word minimums for their posts so I’m only earning around $3.25 to post a two-three paragraph review on a site that in the end isn’t very interesting at all. Minus this factor – however – I’ve made about $200 from them in about a month so I’m not complaining.

The company I’ve earned the most money with, PayPerPost, has made life a little easier on me. They’ve just created a new program named PPP Direct where advertisers can hire bloggers directly without having to share the opportunity with other posties. So say I set my fee so that I’ll review a site for a minimum of $100. This advertiser would then click on my badge (located on my sidebar) and then they’ll be brought to PPP and go through the quick and painless sign up process. Their name will be added to the database and thanks to the new program PPP implemented into their system – the advertiser deals with me and only me directly, without any influence from PPP. If I review their website for $100, I’m getting the full $100 – no questions asked. I get my money, the advertiser gets their PR and everyone is happy.

Sluggish

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

I woke up around 11 this morning after approximately 5 hours of sleep. Unfortunately Baby was having trouble breathing through his nose so it made it difficult for me to get any sleep with him honking away. My stomach is cramped up like no tomorrow and the only thing that the Midol is doing for me is putting me to sleep. This makes it very difficult for me to get any work done consider my eyes continue to close on me.

Bella is being extra clingy today for some reason and I honestly have no idea why. She won’t get off my lap and it’s making it difficult for me to getting things done as well. My arm is close to falling asleep because of the pressure she’s putting on it, part of me wonders if taking a nap would really be worth it. My entire body wants to go to sleep anyway, maybe I should listen to it?

I made lunch a little while ago, home made pizza. It turned out pretty good. I didn’t eat much of it because of how my stomach has been feeling but I enjoyed my portion. Food Lion has a 10 for $10 deal going on right now and I picked up some of those “Take & Bake” loafs of bread. You throw them in the oven at 400?Ǭ?F for about 12 minutes and they cook up almost as good as regular fresh baked French bread.

I haven’t gotten much work done today. I did get quite a bit of emails processed though it’s just the sake of actually working on the important things that’s got me on edge. I can’t keep my eyes open either so that certainly doesn’t help. There’s got to be something I can do that doesn’t require taking a nap.

Having a bit of trouble…

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

I’ve been looking at the screen for so long that now I’m to the point of having trouble seeing. I’m no where near where I need to be, so going to sleep seems like a downright bad idea. I just know that if I can get a few hours of rest maybe I can be more productive. I don’t know, it’s probably just me complaining for no reason.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have better luck with getting everything done. I did get a template out of the way for a client. I very quickly put the finishing touches on the June theme because I know for sure that I won’t have the time to do it when other projects start. There’s a little bit to do but it’s only about 15 minutes of work in total so I’m sure I can get that taken care of tomorrow morning after I wake up.

My stomach is still bothering me, only this time it’s not that something didn’t agree with me it’s the fact that I’m close to toppling over in pain from the cramps. Midol isn’t working, I’m tempted to take a vicodin but then I know for sure I’ll have to get some sleep and I’d rather not knock out for 12 hours. Hopefully 4-5 hours will be the ticket, it’s what I’ve basically been doing anyway.

Baby’s in the office playing Halo3, he’s been working his ass off for the last few days because his mother’s birthday is coming up and he wants to get her a somewhat pricey gift so he’s knocking projects out as quickly as possible just to get all of that taken care of. He’s also sick as a dog so that isn’t helping much either, poor thing can barely breath but he’s getting shit done and I guess that’s all that matters.

In any event, I think I’m going to write-up tomorrow’s To-Do list and sign off for the night so I can get some sleep. My eyes kind of just crossed on each other and I really, REALLY hate when that happens!

Credit Card Search Engine

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

I’m still on my quest for a credit card and with all of the money coming in lately I know it’ll be easier for me to get everything I want, thanks to a few valuable resources of course. CreditCardSearchEngine.com is a great resource for people looking for a credit card. Even if you’ve got bad credit you can still get yourself a card to make your life just a little bit easier. This site is one of the longest running sites for online credit card comparison. They know exactly what they’re talking about and give you the latest information on every kind of credit card you’d like to learn more about. They’re definitely a resource worth checking out.

A little overwhelming…

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with work at the moment. I brought it all on myself, in the end, but that doesn’t make it any less stressful. A few days ago I went on a bidding spree with a few freelance sites and I’m not quite sure how it happened but I’ve managed to win 12 out of 15 of the bids. Each user wants me to start immediately. : deep breath :

A lot of it is blog templates, some of which I already have created I just need to change some things around graphically, this should take no time at all but when you’re dealing with people who are set on a schedule and you’re factoring in that all of these accounts need to be done before the end of next week it can really put a damper on my weekend plans.

I have a blog template to knock out tonight before I go to bed. I’m going to have another four to work on sometime over the course of the next two days. I have to email back someone who needs a quote on a PHP script and someone emailed me asking about advertising space so I need to come up with a quote for that too. While I fully admit that my blog is for more monetary than personal reasons, I’m not sure if I’m willing to place large 100-200 word ads on the sidebar. I’ll have to really think about it, then come up with a quote and go from there.

In the end, however, even if I don’t do that advertising my monthly income will be double what it’s been in the past and this can only mean something bad is going to pop up sometime in the very near future because I’ll obviously need the money to take care of it. It’s typically how the universe balances itself out.

I guess I should get my ass in gear. I think I’m going to have to steal my dry erase board from baby so I can keep track of everything. Heh.

Productivity at it’s finest.

I’ve gotten quite a bit done today. I’m ahead as far as my time frame for getting some work done is concerned. I’ve got the gardening done, Bella’s taken care of as well. She needed some trimming around her face because she was just over heated so I trimmed some hair out and got rid of a little bit of matting on her legs before I schedule another appointment for her for the groomer. Considering it’s going to be in the mid 80’s for a few days, I figured every little bit helps so hopefully the trim makes her a bit more comfortable.

I’ve gotten some work done, setup some accounts and I know I have a few more things to get done but I also know that I’m about two hours ahead instead of the 3 hours behind I was previously. That’s always a good thing, right?

Dieting today is fairly simple. I’ve only taken in about 300 calories so far so that’s good as far as sticking to my guns. My hip is bothering the hell out of me, so much so that it hurts to stand at this point let alone sit down. My stomach is killing me due to Aunt Flo and on top of that my ankle keeps popping when I walk, more so now than it ever has before considering how much damage I’ve done to it over the years. Maybe I’m just getting old and my body is telling me there’s a storm coming this way – I don’t know. It is all joint pain when it comes down to it so who knows what’s going on.

Guess I should get dinner started, I just finished cleaning up the kitchen and have a few little things to do here and there to prepare for the weekend. We’re working on getting Kay’s sister down here for a Memorial Day BBQ but who knows if that’s actually going to happen. Her sister is hard to get a hold of sometimes. Hopefully we’ll be able to get in touch with her before it’s too late.

Show off your school pride!

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

For nearly 20y ears, Bagus Custom has made a presence in the foot ware industry. They produce custom flip flops which come in a variety of styles and colors. They can be emblazoned with an organization or business logo. They can even be ordered with a ‘talking sole’ which would be a name or mascot cut out of the bottom of each sandal so it leaves an imprint on the sand when you walk on the beach, it’s pretty cool. They’ve worked with thousands of businesses and have experienced the benefits of enhancing their image with flip flops. Some of their clients include The X Games, McDonalds, Marriot Resorts, Surf Ride Boardshops, ESPN, Toyota, Necker Island Resort, Calvin Klein, Miami Heat, Baltimore Ravens, LA Dodgers, Nezzy Surfboards, Hilton, Surf Line Hawaii, Concept Clothing, The Catamaran Company and many, many more. They pride themselves for excellence in everything they do.

For the cheerleaders out there looking to get your school colors out there with your team mates, they offer a section on Cheerleading Fundraising. You can create flip flops with your school colors and logos to be worn by all of your team mates. I know a lot of cheerleaders, my high school was filled with them and on few occasions they went to Regionals, never quite making it to nationals. They all wore the same outfits to keep a tight-knit group but they typically couldn’t show off anything with a logo unless it was school issued. Bagus Custom would be a valuable resource for them because their line of sandals are available in both adult and children’s sizes. You and your entire team can walk on the beach in style, showing off your school pride.

Check them out, baguscustom.com.

They’re starting to move in…

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Memorial Day is fast approaching and since I live in a resort town, there’s quite a few people floating around the complex looking for vacation rentals. There are people coming in from all over but the ones making their presence known, and not in a good way, are the Pennsylvanians. I’m not dissing the entire state, but the ones who travel down here are very cocky people and even meaner drivers. Kay was almost run over recently because some ass got too impatient at a light and basically said “Screw the pedestrians” and barreled his way through.

Since everyone is coming down here to go to the beach and do some shopping, part of me wants to get the heck out of here and find some where that isn’t going to be over loaded with people. I thought about heading north back to New York but I’m sure I could find something even further north. I’m considering Maine, I’ve wanted to go up there for quite some time and it seems like such a ‘far away’ state I wouldn’t really expect it to be a huge tourist attraction.

Very late start

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I had a late start today but this is because I couldn’t fall asleep until after 5am. Typically I sleep from about 2-10 which is a reasonable 8 hours. Today, unfortunately, it was 5-1pm which is kind of messing me up. I’m hours behind on many things and there’s a lot of work to be done that I’m only now scratching the surface on.

I watered the plants today, I’ve also taken a nice well needed shower considering how horribly I feel right now. I started my period this morning and I’m not sure if it’s an allergic reaction to new body wash or something but I have a nasty rash on the back of my leg that’s driving me crazy. The whole lower half of me is basically falling apart, my hip is bothering me as well. I keep getting random jolts of sharp pain, I really need to find better seating.

Chat Rooms

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I know people who for years have remained active in chat rooms. Everything from your basic AOL rooms to your world-based Yahoo chat rooms. There’s a newer site on the ‘net that offers free chat rooms. It’s called wireclub.com.

I did some surfing around the site and found a few rooms of interest. The cool thing about this site is it’s kind of an ‘all-in-one’. You can also host a blog here, it’s also known for being a free dating site. It’s, to some degree, a newer twist on a myspace kind of a site. You can talk with other members, browse profiles, create friends lists, view picture galleries and blog. It’s completely free so if you’re looking to get involved with a new up and coming site, check out wireclub.com.

There are many social networking sites popping up around the internet, some of them look really interesting while a few of them are most likely going to be belly up sometime in the next year. Based on how popular and active wireclub.com seems to be at the moment, it’s safe to say this site may be around for a while. Sign up today, get yourself into something good from the get go, it’s kind of cool when you can be considered one of the senior members on a site, depending on how popular it gets of course.

Getting Sleepy

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

It’s a little after 4am and I honestly have no reason as to why I’m still up this late. I woke up around 10:30 this morning which seems to be a consistent time, no matter what time I happened to get to sleep the night before. I’m sure there’s something I could be doing right now to keep me entertained but while I’m finding it hard to get to sleep, my eye lids are growing to be very heavy and I can’t seem to concentrate on anything.

My back was bothering me for the bulk of the day, I can’t wait until all of the birthdays are taken care of so I can start putting money towards my next big purchase – a new bed. Baby and I plan on moving the rooms around soon. We’ll hold off on the bed purchase but I do still need to get about $100 together. It’s going to cost me around $25 to get the closet taken care of because there’s no shelving in there. Another $25 should cover a few baskets. I won’t have a real ‘dresser’ so I’m going to take three baskets and divide my things reasonably. One basket for underwear, one for socks, one for bras. It’ll make life a little easier in the end, at least I won’t have to dig through a single drawer to try to find what I’m looking for. I’m sick of picking up underwear thinking I finally found the bra I was just digging for. There’s very limited space at the moment, this is why I only have one drawer. The rest of the money is for some shelving around the room. Since there’s limited floor space, we’re going to utilize the wall space. Since I’m lucky enough to have an LCD TV, it’s easier to mount that on the wall than it would be to find a thin book case to throw in the corner of the room.

I’m sure everything will figure itself out though, I’m probably just letting off some kind of steam because there’s no one awake to talk to. Princess is crying to get out of the bedroom but I think that’s because I just finished heating up some food for Bella. She’s asleep but I know she randomly wakes up during the night to pick at things. She doesn’t really eat much during the day so that’s really the only way to get food in her stomach. Walmart has been out of chicken all week so I don’t know what else to feed her. I’ve started on some sliced turkey, hopefully they’ll last long enough for me to figure something else out.

Baby’s been asleep for the last few hours, maybe I’ll go in there to curl up with him and hopefully knock out for the night. UHT, Bella’s scratching at the door – guess I should get in there ASAP before she wakes everyone up!

Where’d it come from?

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I finally got rid of all the crap on my computer that was slowing it down. I’m not sure where the viruses and other things came from but running quite a few scans I was able to resolve the issue. Hopefully this won’t show up again now that I’ve loaded myself up with some new programs. The older ones really weren’t doing their jobs, new things are always fun. I’m using a few programs that Baby recommended to me. AVG Free Anti-Virus, I’m also using their Spyware and Malware programs. Hopefully this helps me keep everything clean!

Is everything backwards?

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

PPPBaby is a bit of a dyslexic. It’s been an on-going problem for him for basically his entire life. He’s been through testing and reading programs and what not but he still has trouble with things sometimes. There’s a resource online that offers a reading program developed to defeat dyslexia. It’s dyslexiadecoded.com; Free Help for Dyslexia. The site isn’t entirely for dyslexia, they also help adults whom have trouble reading, for a myriad of reasons including a lack of a formal education when they were growing up. They offer a few courses; Teach Baby the ABC’s, Alphabet Course, Silent Association, Decoding, Basic Reading Skills and Advanced Reading Skills.

Official Press Release:

Dyslexia? Now there is Free Help

Now there is free online help for people who have dyslexia or simply did not learn to read well while going to school. It is a click-?¢‚ǨÀún-learn program. Students and adults may learn decoding, basic reading skills, and advanced reading skills all with the click of a mouse.

The program is called ReadingBySix. It provides a systematic approach to helping people defeat dyslexia and related reading problems. You will notice measurable progress from week to week provided participants are active in their studies and do their assignments. The online courses are virtually free when you give a small donation. If you choose not to donate, they are completely free.

Dyslexia is a distinct learning disability characterized by difficulties in decoding individual words. These difficulties may not show up in other cognitive and academic abilities. Dyslexia results from the confusion caused by the brain?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s inability to associate abstract symbols with abstract ideas. This includes associating letters and words with the sounds they represent. The key to defeating dyslexia is learning to decode English sounds.

You are invited to review the website and take a few of the courses for practice and learn how the program works. Then use it to teach your children or students to read. It can be used for preschool, home school, grade school, or high school. Students, adults, and children can use it. It teaches reading 100% of the time and it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s all electronic. If you know of people who need help, please tell them about ReadingBySix: http://www.dyslexiadecoded.com/
