Resource: Deal Locker

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I’m poking around the ‘net with my usual coupons and promo codes found on Deal Locker for a few important household items. Mainly electronics coupons because we intend to upgrade a few things, like the TV’s and maybe a few monitors here and there. I’m content with mine but I know Sean needs better ones and considering our main form of combined income is all based on the Internet at this point, we’re going to need a few improvements here and there in order to pay the loan back, you know?

I like this new site though, deallocker.com, it’s mainly run by consumers and you don’t have to fish through expired codes before you get to the good ones. That’s one issue I was having with a previous site considering all of the purchases I’ve been making with Staples in the past. They’re a bit pricier when it comes to office equipment but the codes help so that balances itself out. I know I’ve spoken about Staples a lot but that’s mainly because they have everything I need. Where else are you going to find a comfy office chair marked down to $30 that isn’t a POS? Walmart? Kmart? Puhlease!

Another interesting thing about this particular site is their shopping tips and coupon blog. I’ve been using promo/coupon codes for so long that their tips really aren’t anything new to me but I figured I’d share the link for anyone who’s never really done this kind of shopping before. I just think if you can walk into a store with a coupon clipped out of the weekly mailer, then using them online should be no different. Sure, you may only save yourself a few dollars but think of that as covering the taxes.

DealLocker.com isn’t limited to just the US, there’s a database of companies listed all over the world so if you’re visiting here from say Germany, you can still find some great deals as well.

Travel Plans: Australia

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

In continuation of a previous entry I posted in regards to traveling, it was pretty strange to come across a new resource about Australia hotels. I know quite a few people who live in Australia, even some whom have just gone for a visit and every time I even mention traveling to another country they pounce on the fact that I need to get myself down there as soon as humanly possible. It connects back to a site I came across years ago too. A woman met the love of her life in Australia and while she lived in California, that didn’t stop them from making the relationship work. She packed up and moved away from everything she’d ever known and is now living with her husband and three children in Australia. I think it was a rather sweet story, I just wish I could remember the name of her site!

Moving right along…

Naturally when planning a trip the first thing you’re going to look for is pricing and coming across resources for hotels is always a great deal. Sure, there are sites out there that will tell you everything you need to know but sometimes you can get better deals when you go directly to the horses mouth, in this case I came across hotels in Cairns which is located on a site in dedication to Asia hotels. I did some poking around and found some rather interesting pricing, to the point that I almost found myself booking a room at the All Seasons Cairns Gateway Resort because I think for USD$88 staying in a resort that’s surrounded by crystal blue water and palm trees is a damn good deal.

The good thing about working for yourself, and online for that matter, is the ability to take work with you. I can honestly say that I’d leave the laptop at home for a trip to Australia, why spend time online checking email when you can be enjoying beautiful scenery?

Mommy Makeovers

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

For many years now, the influence of the media has really bothered me. I know that I’m not the only one who’s had these issues as well. Young girls see scantly clad ‘role models’ partying, drinking, acting foolish and being plastered all over magazines as though they’re worthy of being some sort of royalty. They’re all ‘too pretty’ with gorgeous figures and this is exactly why every plastic surgeon from here to California can make a killing off someone’s insecurities.

I’ve met a few women who believe in nothing more than vanity sizes. They literally want to be skin and bone and consider wearing a double zero to be an important and ‘healthy’ goal to have in life. One found natural curves to be so disgusting that she dropped a few thousand on beverly hills liposculpture to fix her problem.. I didn’t quite understand what liposculpture was, I’ve only ever heard of liposuction. Apparently it’s some special technique that a surgeon will use so that activates the skin to help tighten the area after liposuction, this way you don’t have the excess skin where the fat used to be. What’s wrong with these people just doing some damn sit-ups and stopping themselves from spending an excessive amount of money just to get the body they feel they deserve. What’s wrong with people working towards their goals in the exercise sense? Now people are just working in the financial sense to fix what’s wrong with them.

One procedure that I can kind of understand, but am still a little iffy on is the mommy makeover. I understand that after child birth the boobs and the stomach just aren’t what they used to be. Getting your breast lifted back to where it was pre-pregnancy and the stomach closer to where it was previous as well is fine and dandy but while they’re spending the money anyway, these women are throwing in nose jobs and implants that make them about as large as they were when they were breast feeding. I can say that breast feeding is more than likely the cheapest way to find out if you can handle having your tits that big but when you’re lugging around a child for 9 months and then having them latched onto you for up to a year (maybe more depending on the parent) after that your back is more than likely going to be shot and you aren’t going to even want the boobs anymore.

I find boobs to be a nuisance, Sean would disagree but that’s because men know nothing about what women really go through. Having a larger chest (over weight or not) means nothing but back and posture issues. It’s also difficult to find the right bra because real boobs weigh a lot more than implants ant Victoria’s Secret can’t keep the puppies where they’re supposed to be. So the next time someone who’s an A-C cup are interested in those double d’s, remember that those with natural double-d’s and up may easily be able to influence their man to do something, but it doesn’t mean they’re physically comfortable while doing it.

Bowtrol

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

There’s a new product out called Bowtrol out on the market. It can be found on basically any health forum but there is a lot of hype about it as being one of the best natural colon cleansing products out there. It’s important for someone to clear their system from time to time. It helps with weight loss, it gets rid of all of the bad toxins in your body and I’m sure there are many other benefits of colon cleansing that can be found by looking around publichealthforums.com as well. You should consider checking them out if you’re always looking for new and interesting products to better your daily life.

Destum Partners

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Important Note: When being asked to review a website, paid or not, I treat it as though I’ve just come across the site on Google and then give my opinion from there. Price tags do not, by any means, sway my opinion on a sponsored entry. This is something I would like for the sponsor to keep in mind. Through me, you will receive my 100% honest opinion on your product and I remind you that this is what you’ve asked for.

This review is based on the company, Destum Partners.

Destum Partners provide consulting and advisory services to companies within the life science industry. They work with a variety of companies ranging from start-up biotech companies to even multinational corporations. Their goal is to work exclusively with companies that they perceive to have a profound impact on improving the quality of life for humanity. They initially work with companies by providing analytical services followed by the execution of their analytical results through licensing, divestitures and acquisitions. Destum Partners is a fully integrated consulting firm, working with companies from strategy inception to execution.

If you’re in the field of life science or running a life science project, you’d more than likely need to go through a consulting company like Destum Partners. They have over 15 years of experience in this field and have various methods of collecting data from both primary and secondary resources so that you can get the most reliable information available to you. They can also provide you with historical information on products, sales and other related reports. They can provide more research for you upon your request, naturally. Destum Partners has Oncology experts from the United Stats offering efficient and reliable solutions for acquisition of real time data.

Doing some surfing around their website I found it rather easy to come across all of their company and services information. For someone whom is not in the life science field, however, their site is a bit hard to understand. I never did well in science, however, and since I don’t have anything to do with science at this point in my life, information like this doesn’t really help me. Based on what I’ve seen though, they do depend a lot on quality control. I believe this company is here to do nothing more than benefit those using the products that they’re researching. They’ve provided market analysis for clients from pharmaceutical, biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and even animal health based companies. They have a rather strong database of information to help you with every aspect of your research and could more than likely be a complete benefit for your life science project.

Moving is tricky

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Sean and I are still rather unsettled on the topic of where we’d like to move. Naturally price is a factor but location is also kind of a big deal for me. I’m currently 5 hours away from everything I’ve ever known and now he wants to go all the way to Ohio because he says he loves it out there. I’ve never been there before, but I also know that it’s even further away from Long Island than I am now. I’m sure at some point in time I’ll be traveling out there considering it’s where his brother currently lives but that doesn’t mean I know off the bat that I’m going to love it there enough to want to live there. Yes, for $5,000 we can get a trailer and spend $200 on lot rent. Financially that’s safe but I want something that’s mine, I don’t want lot rent I want a mortgage on land that I OWN so I can do with it what I please. I want a pool, I want a big fenced in back yard and I’d love to have a huge patio just to relax on without a care in the world. I don’t want to live in the middle of some redneck trailer park where everyone has two first names and even less teeth in their mouth.

Another big factor to moving is whether or not we’ll need to go through moving companies or if we’re going to truck everything there ourselves, maybe even just renting a uhaul but then we’d need some kind of auto transport just to get the car(s) out there if we’re driving the uHaul. We could get away with just a hitch with the uHaul but I’m sure we’d need a bit more room than we’re thinking now considering how much stuff the two of us have accumulated. I’ve downgraded a lot with the move, I threw out a lot more than I’d thought before moving down here. There would also just be a lot of crap to buy as well with furniture that we currently don’t have due to a lack of space, it’s just a whole big chunk of things to go through that I don’t, at this time, have the energy for.

I guess the only upside, at this point, would be the fact that I don’t have to worry about international shipping. Though, Canada does look fairly good to me considering I’d have to continue dealing with the bone head that’s running America.

Your Personal Lifestyle Guide

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I recently came across a new site just for women entitled Get a Fab Life!, a site brought to you by herfablife.com. This site has everything you could ever want when it comes to women. To some it’s considered Your Personal Lifestyle Guide.

It’s the latest social lifestyle community for young urban hip and trendy women who are interested in the latest fashion styles, the newest restaurant, bar, spa, salon and retail store openings. They’re also interested in all of the upcoming events and concerts in your town. The site allows users to contribute content to the site, voice opinions and vote on content that they like or dislike. Originally I thought it was just a community forum that’s over-run with children the way all forums on the internet seem to be these days, but it’s really not. It’s kind of like a one-stop resource for everything that women are interested in. Right now it’s in the Beta stages but there are plenty of openings for freelance bloggers, aspiring writers, stay at home moms, and students to openly contribute content to their site. If there’s a new store opening in your town that you’re itching to write about, herfablife.com, your fav lifestyle guide, would more than likely be the best place to list it.

I was born and raised in New York, there are many places of interest outside of New York City but the big ‘trademark’ of New York is the material world of the city. There are shops throughout the entire state that can radiate tons of interest to outsiders looking for new places to go. I’d love to list them all, but they’d more than likely need a larger hard drive on the server if I ever wrote anything for them. On the flip side, however, being new to Delaware I’m always itching to find new resource, state wide, that would help me out as far as finding new stores. Sure, word of mouth is great and all from the locals, but I want more in depth information and I have no doubt in my mind that herfablife.com will give it to me once more members begin posting about their local areas.

If you’re at all interested in contributing to their database, head over to herfablife.com and sign up. If you know everything about your town, or even everything about where to go in your state, it’s more than likely going to be a great resource for you to use!

Review: The Piggy Banker

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

When asked to review a site, I always find it difficult coming up with the right words to say so that I not only get my point across, but I also like to not offend anyone either. Today’s review is based on thepiggybanker.com. Their tag line includes “Best CD Rates, highest savings, money market, credit card reviews & bank deals.” as someone who sees the importance behind going with a good bank, not one that will potentially rob you blind, I feel it’s important to learn a thing or two about the companies you’re interested in before you even give them your information. Resources like these could be a valuable one to anyone who uses it.

This site offers the ability for you to look through a database of the top banking companies so you can compare them based on rates and other options that would be the deciding factor on your choice of banks. They also offer the ability to find Best Credit Cards so that you can know from the get-go what you’re getting into when dealing with this company. They give honest reviews and statistics to help make your ‘shopping around’ run a little smoother.

One section I came across was a WT Direct Savings Review. WT stands for Wilmington Trust, a company that’s located in many places around the US and one I was considering when I moved to Delaware considering one of their banks are located right outside of the complex. After reading this review, however, I understand that they’re not exactly going to be the best account to go with unless I’m looking for a high yield savings account. The minimum balance required at deposit is $10,000 and any balance in the $1-$10,000 range will earn approximately 5.26% APY for the first 60 days. So after doing the math, if I happen to deposit $10,000 and then within the first 60 days, I happen to deposit another $1,000 it will give me a total of $11,578.60 in my savings account. I would assume that if I maintain over $10,000 I’ll have the same 5.26% interest, but according to the site if I’m UNDER, it drops it down to just .6% which is even less than my account with Washington Mutual that I closed before moving down here.

As far as the site goes, it primarily looks like a bankers blog. The owner compares many rates through archived blog entries and minus the banner ads spilled all over the page, it’s really not that bad looking. I would personally recommend cutting back on a few of the ads but since the user is offering a free service then I can understand why the page is loaded the way it is, it just makes it hard to actually find the CONTENT of the page considering everything valuable about the site is basically underneath all of the useless links. This is only from a design standpoint, however. The site seems to be updated on a some what regular basis though, the RSS feed shows a recent updated in Wednesday the 27th. I assume that the owner knows he has a good thing going and is going to keep up with it, as many web masters should.

The media has more influence than I thought…

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

While many people may not realize it, cosmetic surgery isn’t just limited to beverly hills breast reduction. Sure, los angeles liposuction is extremely popular as well but the one thing that was new to me is the ethnic plastic surgery. Yes, I know it seems a little odd but face it, all of the plastic surgery stories you’d see on television are primarily just rich white women looking to improve something that doesn’t even need to be touched.

I was taken back by seeing this link, as odd as that may sound, but typically when I think ethnic I think of a black woman proud to be exactly what she is and how she is. In New York, going into stores like Dots or Rainbow you see a lot of very proud black women who aren’t complaining about being in the plus-sized section of the store, hell – them embrace it. Watching television you see influences like Monique showing off just how proud she is to be a big beautiful woman. So naturally when I hear something in regards to an ethnic woman looking to have a breast reduction, nose job, tummy tuck or all of the above, it just seems out of the norm for me.

I just still believe it’s a shame that no matter how much money you have – you can’t just be happy with who you are. I also see that in a few different ways though. Yes, I’m working on losing weight but it’s based on the fact that I’m unhappy with where I am, it’s also a health related issue. Just because you have a little extra fat on your body doesn’t mean you’re morbidly obese and should go under the knife. Someone, like myself, who’s 100lbs overweight, naturally I’m going to fix it the proper way first without depending upon a surgeon to step in, especially at what these men and women charge to slice you with all kinds of needles and knives just to fix something that can easily be adjusted without going through the pain.

Plugs by Request – Navtej Kohli

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

By request, I’m plugging the following websites.

I did some reading around this users blog and found that he talks a lot about internet technology as well as internet marketing. I’ve also noticed that he has a section on Yahoo! Answers as well. Based on his LinkedIN account, he is the CEO and Director of Grafix Softech which is a software application company operating out of Costa Rica. They provide payment solutions for online businesses and have also delved into the world of internet marketing. The company employs around 250 people and has seen a steady rate of growth over the past seven years.

If this seems at all interesting to you, especially those who use internet technology to your advantage, then this is more than likely a resource you should follow.

Possibly changing servers…

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

I’ve been looking for an outside server to run a few of my projects on. The company I house a reseller account with at the moment isn’t really that great when it comes to support and the server is constantly up and down almost every other day. So I poked around the ‘net to the typical hot spots for hosting and they were really no better either. Today I came across Host Arcadia and after going through their plans and what not, I’m more than likely going to go through them with what I need. Since I’m going to need enough room and bandwidth for multiple domains, naturally I’m going to look towards a reseller account.

Their reseller plans are in the $6 a month range. I’d get 1GB of disk space and 30GB of bandwidth. The one that stands out the most for me, however, is considered their “Bliss” plan which is 2500mb and 75gb of bandwidth. I’m more than likely going to shift krissy.nu over to them and considering that alone is the 30gb of bandwidth a month that I’d need, having more than double so I can cover the smaller domains as well, seems to be worth it. It’s $1 less a month than I’m paying now and double the resources so naturally this is going to be the route I’ll take. I guess I’ll have all of that taken care of over time.

Happy Tuesday!

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

The sun is slowly starting to set and I’ve only been up for an hour. While everyone else considers 5PM to be hour 17 of the day, I on the other hand consider it to be hour #2 of my day…see what kind of world I’m in? Last night Sean and I watched Bench warmers, tonight we’re going up to Blockbuster to pick up Reno911 if there are actually any left, he should have gone this morning! Oh well, according to him no one rents on Tuesday’s anyway – I just hope that’s actually the case considering all the freaking tourists are down here.

We got a little bored after the movie and wound up playing backgammon online for a little bit. Then after some television we got back to work and that’s when I completed the template for blog-ideas. I still have a lot of email to go through but I’m hesitant because most of them are bitchy clients who I probably never should have put on the servers to begin with. Just recently I got rid of a kid who I’ve hated for years. He signs up, stops payment two months in and then bitches that his account is suspended. He’s done this to me on two domains, he’s now officially blacklisted. Tony loves when I tell him to put that kind of stuff through, lol.

So tonight there’s little plans made, but a lot of work to be done. I have quite a few clients to get back to, I hope to have Reno 911 in my hands sometime soon but that depends on whether or not Sean is going to get off his booty. Once that’s all completed I’m going to start completing the Beta on blog-ideas.net so even if I don’t have the database up and running I can at least get the content pages ready for all of the front end stuff. For now it isn’t hard to just setup a randomizing JavaScript for the ideas and then build from there as time goes on. I hope to get some more templates up and running as well, I’m going to need to play around in Photoshop for a while anyway.

In any event, I’m going to get my butt in gear on finishing up the email. Maybe I’ll be able to get some more backgammon in while Sean is in the shower or something. At least it’ll keep me entertained – in peace and quite no less. I need to get my iPod back in here, I’m going nuts listening to all this crap going on around me!

Mp3 Duplicates Finder

Monday, June 18th, 2007

I used to spend a lot of time downloading music. With the move and then the fact that I haven’t heard any song (that I don’t already own) that interests me, it’s safe to say that my iPod is rather full and more than likely going to be staying that way for a while. On my external hard drive, however, I house all of the MP3’s that are located on my iPod, as well as ones that I never got around to transferring to it. The problem is, I used to use mp3 download programs before I got myself into iTunes, now since I can download whole albums at a time there are quite a few songs on my external drive that are literally duplicates of other files, this I find to be rather annoying but I don’t have the energy to sit down and go through them all.

Today I came across a website where you can download a program to resolve all of the issues I’m currently having with my MP3’s, head on over to the Duplicates Finder website for previews and what not. This program uses specific methods for duplicates detection. Some programs use file size or name for comparison. Their program uses the artists name, and title of the song from ID3 tag comparison. If the MP3 file doesn’t have the proper filled tags, the program tries to determine the information for you. It works with either mp3, wma, ogg and m4a files. It scans your computer, marks duplicates for deletion and overall will clear out many useless duplicated files from your computer. Makes it easier to have a more organized Playlist, I’d say.

If you’re at all interested in the program you can download Duplicates Finder and then run the free trial. If you’re interested in using the script for quite some time (those of you whom download regularly) you should consider purchasing it. There’s the option for a $19USD single license, for use on one computer. There’s also the option for a $29USD family license to use at any number of family computers. I’d say it’s worth the shot, I’m running mine now and so far it’s finding more than I thought it would, not too shabby.

Engagement Plans

Monday, June 18th, 2007

While we haven’t really made any set-plans towards it yet, Sean and I have randomly going through ideas for Wedding Rings. Naturally women want diamonds but I’d also like mine to be a little bit different. I find Sapphire Rings to be really pretty, and moving away from the ‘norm’ I also find Emerald Rings to be rather pretty as well.

Amethyst Ring So, I’ve been doing some research on the subject. While I have a jewelry store under my belt, considering my family runs one, I like to think I know a thing or two about proper cuts, diamond clarity and other things that someone just walking into a jewelery store may not know about the product they’re getting. I go through many resources on the ‘net, even through direct vendors because I have the log-in keys for them. The one public one that I do like to surf through is mysolitaire.com because they feature some rather gorgeous rings on their site that you can’t help but adore. One of my personal favorites falls under the amethyst rings category because I’m in love with the color purple, and have been for many years. I found the ring above to be probably the more gorgeous of the bunch. It doesn’t take something ‘flashy’ to turn my eyes, it’s the more simplistic settings that I find appealing. I’ve considered this for a wedding ring, just not sure how that would go over considering my lust love for diamonds.

So many choices, so little time.

Wild Addictions

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Some people collect rocks, key chains, bumper stickers, posters and even stuffed animals. Sean, on the other hand, takes the more expensive route. He’s got a fairly large collection of computer parts that he probably won’t ever need but the one thing he’s got an over abundance of is DVDs. He probably has over 300 DVD’s and the list will continue to grow over the course of the rest of his life, no doubt. I just recently pointed him in the direction of a movie collector site because I figured there could be some valuable resources for him to look through. As an organizational freak I’m looking for any excuse to organize him. He’s got a few big binders filled with DVD’s and I always wonder exactly how I could make them more…efficient, even if we don’t watch movies that often. It’s funny, he’s an addict. He makes it a point to grow his collection at any chance that he can get but hardly ever (if at all) will actually watch the movies he’s just purchased. I wonder if they have DVD’s anonymous? heh.

I can do THAT with my cellphone!?

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

When dealing with any company, I like to look at them with an in-depth kind of an eye. Wirefly.com for example, is owned by InPhonic who is a well-known provider of great deals on cell phones and cell phone plans. I knew about both of these companies but I never know they were basically the same up until recently. I’ve spent a bit of time poking around and came across Wirefly ringtones, which are pretty highly regarded considering they offer you quite a bit. I was shocked, however, to find out even more juicy stuff about InPhonic, where the merge of InPhonic and WeatherBug can be quite useful. I’m someone who checks the weather report on a daily basis, knowing I can now get it on my cellphone is naturally going to interest me. I’m sure you can do it with many companies but that’s honestly not a feature that I thought existed outside of business based phones with Nextel. It’s good to know that it’s more widely available than I once assumed.

I’ve looked into every cellphone company available to me and while I’m convinced I’m going to lean towards Verizon, Tmobile is coming in a very close second. I’ve wanted a Razr for many years but if I can find something equally as cute then naturally I’m going to lean towards it. It’s my understanding, based on recent reviews, that the Razr isn’t as popular as it once was. Some people are with the “been there, done that” mentality in regards to the phone. Yes, it’s great finding a practical phone with many color options but this doesn’t mean that it’s the right one for you. At this point I’m looking into something that’s more internet ready than anything, I’ve been considering a blackberry for quite some time and may actually take that route in the future. It houses more options for what I need “on the go”. I’m also looking at it from a business standpoint, obviously. Well see what happens once bills are paid off. I’m going to need a new phone at some point, I just can’t list it as a priority just yet.
