Pains be gone!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

My stomach is bothering the hell out of me for some reason. I’m not sure if it’s something I ate or if it’s the fact that my schedule changed a bit after I’d been doing so well for the last week. I started about two hours later than normal. Typically I wake up and have some tea just to jump start my day, I didn’t do that until about two hours after I woke up so I have no idea if that’s the case or not. Either way I’m sure laying down and relaxing for a bit would probably be the best thing for me. Too bad I have too much work to get done first. I’m watching Afternoon Tea on MPT, something about these old shows always seem to tickle me. Then again, I’ve always had a thing for British Comedy. I think I may wind up making myself some tea after all. I’ve only been drinking water today, may as well flavor it a little, right?

ZAP ZAP!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

I went on a killing spree last night, I know that sounds odd to hear but it’s true. I don’t know if a screen is broken somewhere or what but there were six mosquitoes just hanging out on the walls in the living room last night, I wound up beating them senseless with a fly swatter. This is why I like having a screen door. The door here requires you to get in the house completely before you can close it because there’s a half-wall right next to the door that for the most part is completely useless but I guess it looks nice or something – I don’t know. Either way it’s muggy down here at night and mosquitoes are starting to come out in full force. I should probably invest in a few praying mantis to keep around the house. I also would consider setting up bug lamps because those things seem to really attract them in – scary – ways. It’s cool to watch it happen though, that’s the morbid side of me of course.

Still Talking…

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Baby and I have been doing really well lately. We’re still continuing to talk about future plans, marriage – children – houses – etc. One topic that I’m sticking to my guns with, however, is the actual engagement itself. I’m a girl, a tom boy but probably a girlie-girl at heart, so naturally a diamond engagement ring appeals to me. I know the exact cut, size, clarity and everything else involved. He, on the other hand, is a typical man and would walk into a jewelery store and be suckered into a ring by a sales clerk that not only is going to cost him an excessive amount of money but there’s a 90% chance that I’ll find it ugly. This is why it’s important for every person to have at least one Gay friend, I don’t care how stereotypical it sounds but every gay man in my life would more than likely take Baby shopping just so he gets the ring right.

Shifted

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

I decided to spend some time outside. It’s a little hard to see the screen because of the sunlight but it’s nice getting some air. There’s a group of bunnies playing across the street, it’s cute. I kind of wish I brought my camera out here but I see things like this every day so, to me, it isn’t really worth snapping a picture of. Now that it’s getting warmer I’m really itching to get to the beach. Baby and I haven’t been there in a really long time but I also know that the both of us have been sick for the last few weeks so I guess that played a role in it. Hopefully we’ll be able to go soon.

I have some email to go through, a few people are looking for advertising and for some reason I’m having trouble quoting them, not sure why either. I’m sure I’ll figure something out.

Running out of ideas!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

As some of you may, or may not know, I’m working on a new domain: blog-ideas.net. It’s going to house blog topic ideas, blog templates, blog resources, etc. I have a list of blog ideas but it’s no where near where I wanted it to be. If you happen to have any weblog topic ideas, I’d love to hear them.?Ǭ† They can be the simple run of the mill “What’s your favorite ____” kind of questions or they can be completely off the wall questions like “Pickles, Friend or Foe?” be creative. My creativity is slowly starting to subside but I think that’s based on the fact that I’ve spent so much time in the house for the last week. I really need to get myself down to the beach!

Travel Plans: Orlando, FL

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

I like writing reviews for valuable resources, this is probably why I spend so much time blogging these days. I came across Orlando Hotels which is only a small part of Orlando.com and I figured it would be a fairly easy review.

The site itself is very well put together. The designer is really pushing the Web 2.0 card, beautifully done. With this site you can search for Hotels in Orlando, You can look for Condos, Vacation Packages, Cars, Flights and even Group Bookings. Orlando isn’t just known for Walt Disney World, it serves as a backdrop for high-end shopping areas, luxury resort hotels, cultural venues and other family-oriented activities. Orlando.com is a great resource for your Orlando Travel Guide which offers tips on entertainment, dining, nightlife and much more. It’s definitely worth checking them out.

I really am Smiling

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

There are thousands of different types of credit cards. There’s a company in the UK called “Smile” which has award winning credit cards. (2002-2005). They’ve got two cards, the classic card with cashback on every penny or the low rate cold card. I surfed around their site for a little while and I have to say, it’s not the typical credit card website. I’ve never seen a business use pink, white and black to promote credit cards so that right there made me smile a bit. Too bad I don’t live in the UK to get this card for myself but hey, I’m sure I can find something like it in the US.

Maybe if my PP Debit card ever gets here it’ll give me something to smile about too…heh.

Complete and Total BS

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

June is fast approaching and the reason this seems so important to me is mainly because it’s when Paris starts her 45 days in jail. Now, I typically don’t care too much about celebrity gossip but there’s only so much bull shit I can hear about before I pop, this is typically why I don’t watch television very often.

She violated probation, was sentences and then tried to appeal with some “I never read the documents” line. :: blinks ::

Now there are people all over the US (and probably the world) supporting this BS Free Paris campaign. I logged into PPP today and found an opportunity offering like $9 for you to push some “Free Paris” bracelet. I quickly laughed and it only added to the continuing spectacle that is this Hilton nitwit.

Here’s the deal – if you wish to hear one of course.

She’s a ‘celebrity’ for no real reason other than her parents being rich and she’s proven herself to be a whore on numerous occasions. Some sites consider her an Actress but she’s been in maybe 2 movies and she sucked in both of them. She claimed to have some kind of a music career but at least she’s consistently annoying us with new and interesting things. I feel no sympathy whenever something goes ‘wrong’ for her because she typically brings it on herself.

With her ‘status’ she likes to consider herself a role model for young girls. Yes, a role model is supposed to walk around half naked and use their license for drunk reckless driving :hrmmm:

It’s quite simple, really. She broke the law and like any regular person would know – you do the crime, deal with the time. Martha Stewart sat pretty in jail, Paris Hilton can too.

Fuck the “Free Paris” Movement. Let the bitch rot in jail, maybe someone will be smart enough to give her the senseless beating she so rightfully deserves.

[/end rant]

Even the simple things are dangerous.

What exactly is Lasik Eye Sugery? According to my trusty Wiki source:

LASIK, an acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, is a form of refractive laser eye surgery performed by ophthalmologists intended for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The procedure is usually a preferred alternative to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, as it requires less time for full recovery, and the patient experiences less pain overall. Many patients choose LASIK as an alternative to wearing corrective glasses or contact lenses.

You go in with bad eye site, a little laser plays with your eye and then you’re eye sight is supposed to improve. Quick and simple, easy and painless? This isn’t always the case. I remember a few months ago when my friend said she was going to have Lasik Eye Surgery. She saved up quite a bit of money because her optical insurance didn’t cover the surgery (even though she was close to blind in one eye). A few days later she noticed that her eyesight really didn’t improve and she was convinced she was going completely blind, she had an infection. It’s all cleared up now but while Lasik Complications are very rare, they do happen. Not many people know the full danger of any surgery they’re looking to have, or how to resolve the outcome if something goes wrong. Resources like complicatedeyes.org helped her, and I’m sure it could help anyone else.

Important Notice

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

I’m not sure where exactly it’s coming from but I’m fully aware of the pop up that’s showing up whenever my site is loaded. I’m going through all of my source code for any kind of external link that could be causing this. Part of me believes it’s Adbrite but I won’t know that for certain until I start moving things around. I’m also finding it a bit strange that the pop up is showing up in MSIE when I’m loading everything in Firefox, it’s a bit confusing. I’ll continue working on getting this issue resolved.

I’m just surprised that I’ve gotten emails about this and it’s only shown up recently. While I do appreciate the emails notifying me of this issue – I do not appreciate the one claiming that I’m a ‘sell out with banner ads’, stupidity amuses me – remember?

In any event, I’ll continue getting this worked out and then move on from there.

I found it!

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I was finally able to find a calorie counter, strike that, I was able to find a free calorie counter. This makes dieting a lot easier for me. I don’t see myself joining programs like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig or anything else that requires money that I don’t have just to get advice that’s readily available to anyone with a computer for free. There are many different kinds of diets, calorie counting, carbohydrate counting, no sugar, low sugar – blah blah blah. I’m sticking with calorie intake because I know how many calories I should eat during the day and then how many I need to burn off in order to lose 2-3lbs a week.

The site I found, myfitnesspal.com, is a completely free website that houses a calorie counter. They’ll teach you the nutritional contents of what you’re eating and how you can make better food choices. They’ll never ask you for a credit card, so don’t think that this is only some kind of a free trial. The site is here for you to bookmark and reference back to every time you’re trying to figure out the calorie count of your daily foods.

Accomplished

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I don’t know if it’s based on the fact that I’m living in a new house, or if it’s just my mood these days but I’ve found myself being more productive down here than I ever was in New York. Sure, I’d cook and clean all day long on top of getting my work done but I take a little more pride in my work down here for some reason and I’m not quite sure why. I feel more accomplished when I’m done.

I got the kitchen taken care of tonight. The vacuuming was done and the coffee table is sparkling right now. It’s easier to relax in a clean room anyone knows this. It’s hard to keep a clean house with three dogs and a few pack rats. Since Kay and I were sick this past week there was an over abundance of tissues laying around on the coffee table mixed with her nicorette packets, those are easy to clean though. I moved some things out of the living room that I’ve been meaning to get rid of for the last couple of weeks. I’d brought a keyboard and stand down here for baby to hook up when we get the rooms rearranged, now that it’s out of the living room the entire room just looks much larger.

I hope we’re able to get the rooms rearranged sometime soon. This way I can start unpacking everything off my desk. I’m going to need to pick up a shelving unit for the closet so I can get my clothes transferred over to the new closet. He’s going to keep his where they are because in the long run it’ll be easier. This way he gets his closet back and I get to have my own again. That’ll be sweet, real sweet. He can keep his as dirty as men usually do and I get to have a neat and tidy one just for me. :w00t:

I have some more work to get done, guess I should get started on that.

Not happening soon enough

Monday, May 21st, 2007

For some reason, my business email has been submitted to a few school databases. I’ve got colleges emailing me up the wazoo with information that I never requested. Most of these emails don’t even contain a link that says “Remove me from this mailing list” and that’s the worst kind of email to get. I’ve had one school email me about three times in the last two hours because they’re “Unable to get in touch with me” the phone number they have on file is the one in New York so this can only mean that they’ve been calling my fathers house and I have no doubt in my mind that he’s annoyed about it at this point. I guess I’ll call him in a little while and let him know what’s going on.

I already have my heart set on a school. I know for a fact that I’m going to Penn Foster to get my multimedia degree. At first I wanted to take the programming one but I think it’ll be easier just to get the design aspect taken care of. I’ve wanted to learn flash for years and the only way to do that will have to be with someone (well, in this case a book) walking me through it. This is why you’ve noticed more paid posting on my site. At first it was just to break even but I’m working on something much bigger. Averaging $25-$30 a day worth of posts is very easy but when you factor in 30 days a month that’s about $750-$900 a month, a part time job. Blogging is my outside job, I do still make enough with the design business to be covered but the extra $800 a month is more of a comfort thing. After the first month I’ll be able to enroll in the first semester and that’s really all I want at this point.

Travel Plans: Arizona

Monday, May 21st, 2007

My friend Jackie lives out in Arizona and I remember her noting how hot it was last summer. I’m not a big fan of heat but I do like traveling to new and interesting places. Part of me instantly thought of Scottsdale Arizona because next to Phenoix, that’s the only other place I’ve ever heard of in AZ. I did a quick search to see what the real estate market was like and I have to say, if I had $4.4 Million there’s a house in Paradise Valley that’s got my name written all over it. There’s beautiful landscape, gorgeous lighting surrounding the house and an awesome waterfall in the middle of the pool. I’d kill to visit, let alone live there. There’s also a house listed in the $6.9 range that’s gorgeous as well. I just wish I had the money!

Doing Good

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I’ve been doing pretty good at sticking to my diet today. I’ve had 3 meals and have only taken in about 600 calories. It’s my goal to burn about 7000 calories a week so I can average 2lbs per week. I just snacked on some crackers, I’m still feeling a bit nauseous for some reason. I have a lot of work to do today though, I can’t really just sit back and relax no matter how bad I’m feeling. I guess I should get around to that now. I know there’s a few domains to setup, then I have some other design work to do. With the email downtime yesterday, however, I can’t seem to find anything I need when it comes to getting the clients site in order. Hopefully I can find the email and go from there.

The History of Backup

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I came across a cool link today that I wanted to share: The History of Backup. Computer data back up is a fast developing field. New trends and solutions appear, backup methods and technologies become more complex. Need complete knowledge of backup technology, related features and methods? A look at this history will definitely help.

Backup is the activity of copying files or databases so that their additional copies may be restored in case of data loss. Running a web hosting company, I know the importance of RAID configurations on my servers. This way if I happen to have trouble with something and it winds up being deleted, I know I have at least two copies of it to restore so the client is able to save important files without worry. It’s a lot easier to configure a backup system than one may think. This article shows you many methods to help make your backups much easier.

I do the same for my servers as I do for myself. While I have an external hard drive to save everything, I also have a partition on one of my servers that only I can access so I’m sure to have the files no matter what happens. It’s saving one file in two or more places to insure that it can’t be lost. Backing up your computer, especially when you’re running servers, is very important and something everyone should consider doing.

I hate coming across sites where people complain that they’d lost everything. It’s very simple to have a second resource setup so that you don’t lose everything. Windows frequently has to be installed throughout the life of your computer, anyone knows this, having an external hard drive or two internals setup in RAID formation can make all the difference. While you’ll still have to setup Windows and maybe even reinstall all of your programs – you still have all of your files there and those are obviously the more important factor here.

Try reading through The History of Backup, you’d be surprised at what you learn.
