World Travel: Ecuador

lagunaquilotoa.jpg I have a pretty bad head cold, Baby won’t fess up to the fact that he was the one who gave it to me. I’m seriously considering shipping him off to the Galapagos Islands because of it. It’s not like he’d completely hate it though. Doing some surfing around TheEcuaTraveler.com I came up with some pretty interesting travel links. There’s some fairly decent Spanish schools down there, plenty of scenery and the site itself is very well put together. It was a little hard for me to navigate at first, I couldn’t really tell which was a Google ad and which was actual content. Once I figured it out, however, their travel destinations are pretty gorgeous.

One that stood out for me was the Laguna Quilotoa. A quick description of it had me kind of interested in learning more.

Laguna Quilotoa is a beautiful volcanic-crater lake located about 35km west of Latacunga. The Laguna is about one mile in diameter and its amazing green color changes throughout the day as the sunlight hits it from different directions. On clear mornings the Ilinizas can be seen to the north and Cotopaxi to the east.

I’d say it’s a destination worth checking out, for future world travel of course.

Disappointed. Tired. Confused.

The ‘massive storm’ hit around 8pm. I was rather disappointed to find out that everything good went far south of me to Southern Maryland and parts of Virginia, it’s really not fair. I was expecting something good and all it did was water the flowers for me.

Something tells me I’m going to have to give Bella a bath before I go to bed tonight. I really don’t want to but I know after her walk tonight she’s going to be covered in dirt. It only poured for about a half hour but that was long enough to drench everything to the point of mud building up everywhere. Since she seems to enjoy running through the grass more than just being on the street – naturally she’s going to get pretty dirty.

I had to cancel her grooming appointment, for obvious reasons. The vet recommended that if she was really in as much pain as she is that it’s a bad idea to have a groomer hold her down. I was also informed that the groomer chosen for her wasn’t anywhere near the vets personal recommendation list. She said it’s an unclean environment and I should consider another groomer in the area. The problem is, there’s only ONE other groomer and I refuse to drive way out of my way just to get Bella shaved before it gets too hot down here. It almost reached 90?Ǭ?F today so there’s no way in hell that I want her to wait any longer than she has to. The air conditioning in the house is typically turned off every few minutes because someone gets too cold but then you’ve got Bella and the three other dogs laying on the floor panting like all hell. This is why when the rooms get moved around I’m considering a window unit. This way I know it’s going to be cold in here at all times and Bella can get some relief from the heat.

I’m anticipating tomorrow, it’s supposed to be just as warm so it’ll be nice to sit outside and catch some rays while I’m reading. I haven’t relaxed with a book in a while so it’ll be nice to just sit outside and relax for a bit. I have to get some actual work done first though, there’s not much on my list at the moment so it should be an easy day.

OOOH! I want that!

There are many places in the world that I’ve always been interested in traveling to. Out of those places, there is really only one that I would be willing to live in. Hawaii is an amazing series of islands that makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside it’s unreal. Based on recent real estate reports, Hawaii real estate is booming right now. Kauai real estate is very popular and for a rather valid reason. The island is absolutely gorgeous and most of the homes for sale right now are within only a few miles, and less, of an ocean view. If anyone has ever seen the beautiful crystal blue waters of Hawaii, you’d understand my yearning to get there.

If you’re just looking for a vacation home, than the Big Island real estate is really the place to look. The homes aren’t that large but they’re only in the $80,000 range. You don’t need to own a multi million dollar home to live in Hawaii, sites like hawaiilife.com prove this.

I did some surfing around this site and I found it to be fairly interesting. HawaiiLife.com is a Hawaii real estate search engine that maps all of the available properties for sale through the Hawaii MLS using Google maps. In June 2007 they’ll be adding Maui and Oahu to their listings. I’d say it’s a site worth checking out. It’s nicely designed, they offer very valuable information, as well as aerial views of the home through Google Maps, it’s not a bad idea to keep it as a resource for your next look into Hawaii real estate.

Storms-A-Brewin!

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I’m rather excited about this evening. According to the weather add-on for Mozilla, I keep getting a Severe Weather Alert popping up for me. There’s a huge storm heading this way and I can’t wait until it hits. I want to hear lots of thunder and see massive bolts of lightening shooting off. I also hope it drops a decent amount of rain considering I haven’t really been able to water my flowers in the last 5 days, I’m sure the seedlings are now starting to die considering it’s very sandy soil down here and there isn’t much moisture to be held around the seeds.

It’s warming up quite a bit outside, it reached about 85?Ǭ?F (29?Ǭ?C) today so I’m assuming that tonights storm is going to be a doozy, I truly can’t wait for it. I did a little bit of tanning today, I got some great color this weekend but it was mainly on my arms since I wore pants all weekend. Tomorrow is definitely shorts day…that’s for sure.

Paid Blogging … and you.

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I get a lot of mixed comments in regards to paid blogging. Right now there are bloggers tapped into at least 15 paid-to-blog websites and they’re all making a solid full time income every single month, top earners around the ‘net have brought in over $20,000 in the last six months, that’s $40,000 a year. Not many people can do that from home. A lot of paid bloggers are stay at home moms, they typically use their money to help with the bills. There are a lot of college students looking to make some money considering their class schedules don’t allow time for anything more than a part time job, if that.

If you wish to monetize your blog, there’s really nothing wrong with it. Yes, there are people who go a little overboard with posts. I’ve noticed people spewing completely unimportant/useless entries in between their paid posts just to make it look as though they have an active life. While I do post regularly (depending on time, at least) I make it a point to talk about things that are actually happening around me. I’m not spewing garbage for the sake of filling in the 50 word minimum between entries.

Some may argue that paid blogging is based on bias opinion. Frankly, if I don’t like a product I’m not going to take the offer just to get some cash for it. There are many offers on every paid-to-blog site I’m involved with that I’ve completely over-looked because their topics were uninteresting to me. Yes, there are people who post just to post and this isn’t anything that I’m going to deny – but it’s not just about making money. Users (before paid-blogging) spoke about products, recommending items to many people throughout the years. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being paid for it. That’s exactly what advertising is meant for.

Atlantic City = BUST

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I’m sure I should have updated yesterday but I was a little big depressed after getting home from Atlantic City on Monday evening.

I wasn’t as lucky as I was the last time I went to A.C., I wound up losing about $700 which is fine because that money was specifically for the casino anyway. It just sucked that I couldn’t at least break even considering there are things to do around the house that the money could have been useful for. No worries, however, at the rate things are going I’ll have that back by the end of the week anyway.

I found myself falling asleep in the car, something I almost never do. I was knocked out for about an hour, then I came home to find out that Bella was hurt and she’d destroyed a few things. She tried to dig herself out of the bedroom, she managed to rip the rug to shreds and do some damage to the bottom of the door. I’m not sure if she got her paw caught or something but she was limping and $150 vet visit later, turns out there’s nothing they can really do for her. She’s on anti-inflammatory medication and that’s just about it. She does seem to be walking a little bit better now that they’ve cut her nails, but who knows if that was just a fluke or not. For all I know they could have gotten whatever may have been stuck in her paw, out, when they cut her nails.

I haven’t been feeling well on top of that. I feel a very nasty cold coming on so my time in front of the computer today was limited to getting clients setup and support emails taken care of. After that I did manage to get The Riches Fanlisting up and running and now I’m working on some paid posting that’s set to expire in a few days so I guess I need to get my butt in gear on that.

Hopefully I can have all of this done within the next hour, it’d be nice to get to bed early tonight. I’ll probably be up until 11 anyway, Lost is on tonight and there are only a few episodes left or something like that… I don’t know.

Atlantic City – Here I come!

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

I woke up about 6am so that I could get myself ready to hop on the Cape May/Lewes Ferry at it’s 9am departure towards Cape May. After that I’ll be spending about an hour in the car and stopping at the beautiful Harrah’s Hotel & Casino. Baby and I are both excited because this is one of our first real vacations together. I set myself up in the Bayview tower, which is the new one that they were building the last time I went to A.C., I hear it’s actually pretty gorgeous inside so I’m anticipating it. It’ll be nice to sleep in a bed that doesn’t kill my back, I’ll tell you now that even if I don’t win any substantial amount of money as I did last time, just sleeping on a good mattress for a few nights will be completely worth it.

Dad will make his appearence around 3pm. I have to make it a point to be by the doors around that time so hopefully I’ll be able to find my watch, I’ve been searching for it all morning (Update: Found it, w00t!).

I still have a few things to do around the house, there’s about an hour left before we leave and I need to get the bedroom in order for Bella because she’ll be locked in there until tomorrow evening. Baby’s mom is going to make it a point to let her out for us on Sunday so that she isn’t cooped up in the room the whole weekend. I just need to throw some extra food and water down and then I’m sure she’ll be fine.

It’s going to be a litte bit difficult to stick to diets this weekend but I also know that each floor in Bayview towers is about 1/4 mile, so I may wind up walking the halls for a little while to get in my solid 4 miles a day. I know I’ll be doing a lot of walking around the casino but that’s mainly stop and go kind of walking, nothing consecutive.

Once my father meets up with us we’re probably going to head to Showboat and Caesar’s, I have quite a few comps to cash in on. I’m actually going to have to travel around for all three days based on all of the comps I have. There’s 3 to be done today, a few for Sunday and then probably 4 or 5 to be played on Monday before we start the long drive back home. I would have liked to take the ferry home, especially considering the moon rise, but then we’d have to leave around 5PM and if anyone has been on the Garden State Parkway at rush hour then you can understand my wanting to wait. We’ll just have to do our 2 hours in the car down the Jersey Turnpike – that should be HEAPS of fun…I swear.

In any event, I should get my butt in gear. I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. It’s supposed to be some gorgeous weather for the next few days so hopefully you can all get out in the sun and soak up some vitamin D!

I’m extremely excited, I really hope that I have good news to come home and share.

Masterseek, Business Search Engine

Friday, May 11th, 2007

There’s a new site on the web named masterseek. They are a global search engine that provides quick and free access to company profiles, contact information and descriptions of products and services from more than 45 million companies in 75 countries around the world. You can search locally or worldwide to find business partners, sales opportunities and new avenues to expand your business and increase your companies profitability. You can enter your own companies information to showcase your products and services to the global community as well.

It’s a fairly interesting site, even with only the few moments I spent surfing around it. I came across a few interesting companies that I’ll be contacting in the near future for business ventures. It could be a valuable resource for anyone.

Afternoon TV = HORRIBLE

Friday, May 11th, 2007

There’s literally nothing on television anymore. Lately I’ve found myself with my iPod hooked into my ears because visually there’s nothing going on in the background. Sure, that 70’s show is on right now and while I do enjoy the show I’ve also seen these episodes about 300 times. Tonight is a full 6 hour block of the damn show and I’m pretty sure it’ll all be the same episodes that I was watching for the last week. It can seriously get annoying.

I’m working rather hard on a PSD for a clien, proving to them that I can handle corporate websites, it’s just hard to concentrate for some reason. If I went deaf for the rest of the day, maybe I could get some serious work done. We’re leaving at 8am tomorrow morning so I know that I have to get a lot done, very quickly.

Moving around.

Friday, May 11th, 2007

When we get back from the casino, Baby and I are planning on moving the rooms around. We figured that if we have money coming home with us (winnings or breaking even – whichever) we’ll be better off just moving the rooms once instead of having to break everything down twice. We’ve been surfing around the net and making sure to keep track of all of the online coupons codes so that we’re able to get some very solid discounts on the items we’re purchasing.

We’re going to get two new desks, he’s getting two monitors and I’ll eventually be purchasing a fully loaded iMac for all of my design needs. I just need to get my hands on a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS for Mac. I have three disks (some people just hand things to me for no reason) for Photoshop 7 (x2) and CS2. It’s not illegal copies either, full version software in original packaging. While I’m very happy about this, that doesn’t help my Apple dilema…heh.

When it comes to furniture, we’re a small bit torn. While purchasing a few desks from places like Best Buy, Staples or wherever else would be a good resource for office equipment, I find myself drawn to Home Depot, because I’d seriously prefer to build one myself. There’s plenty of room for it and I know if I can build to my specifications that it’ll make life a bit easier. I’m sure we’ll wind up with a prebuilt system though. I’ve been seriously looking into LAN stations but I was unaware of just how expensive they can get, too bad there aren’t any coupons codes available for those sites.

Curvy-Chick.net

Friday, May 11th, 2007

I’ve been working on a few side projects. While none of them are 100% where I’d like them to be right now, I can say that there is one ready to be ‘published’.

My newest blog is located at curvy-chick.net. I purchased the domain off Elizabeth when I found out that she was selling it. I wanted to start a weight-loss blog but didn’t exactly know where I wanted to place it. I had a private one located in a sub folder here but it just didn’t feel right. Once I saw the domain name, however, I fell in love.

I know I’m never going to be a skinny-mini chick and I seriously wouldn’t want to be either. I’ve always been a big girl and I don’t believe getting down to 120lbs would be the best thing for me. My goal is to get down to the 200 range, I only have 48 pounds left to go and the blog will be my outlet for everything.

Eventually it will house weight-loss resources and both free and paid blog templates for those with weight loss, fitness, food and regular journals – no matter what the topic. If you have a weight loss / fitness blog and would like to be linked, just email me and I’ll add you to the Blogroll.

I joined up a fairly large blogroll based on fitness/health blogs so hopefully my name will be plugged in there soon. For now, however, I’m very happy going through links and learning that I’m not the only one doing very well with this quest.

Looking for the perfect cellphone?

Friday, May 11th, 2007

No matter who you are or how much money you make, you most likely have a cell phone. Just because you don’t have a month-to-month plan (pre-paid) doesn’t mean that you aren’t a valued customer for companies like Nextel, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile.

It’s easy to get your hands on cell phones, and finding sites with resources about these phones is also pretty easy as well. Any information that you could possibly be looking for, you can find on sites like wirefly.com. They offer many different phones and many different companies, Nextel phones, Sprint cell phones, Verizon, T-mobile, it doesn’t matter who you’re interested in going through. They give you all of the resources you need so that you can go out and choose the best phone for you.

I’m personally a fan of T-Mobile, while Verizon has a few more areas of coverage (in NY at least), T-mobile works very well for me down here in Delmarva too. They offer very cool phones with your plans. The one I can say I want the most is the Sidekick. I know it seems kind of ‘old-school’ but it’s also a pretty solid little phone, especially if you’re heavy into text messaging – the pull out keyboard really makes it easier to type.

My sister has mainly had Nextel phones, but they’ve also merged with Sprint?Ǭ† so either one of them is basically like going through the same company. They offer you many different phones, the majority of which offer push-to-talk because it seems that walkie-talkies (while they cost more monthly) are really a bit more effective – especially for those who don’t really like spending much time on the phone. I think, safety wise, having a push-to-talk phone is much better while driving. You don’t have to hold it up to your ear and since most people hold their phones up to their mouths on speakerphone anyway – it just seems like an ok thing to do. Even though in the long run I prefer the people driving around me to have a headset.

Blue tooth headsets are pretty popular, I’m not sure why more people don’t have them. Wirefly.com offers free blue tooth headsets with some of the phones phones ordered through them. They’ve also got cash-back rebates, deals on upgrades, free shipping, and a huge database of phones and plans that you can search through to make sure all of your needs have been met. It’s a pretty nifty site, you should check it out.

Having a BAD day.

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Top five reasons why today kind of, well…sucked.

  1. WordPress Fucked Up! – It was posting new entries as “Private” and I found about four entries over the last two days that were never published
  2. Paypal is EVIL – I applied for my Paypal debit card a few weeks ago and was wondering why it never showed up. They don’t accept forwarded mail and because of this, the card was sent back to them. So I logged into my account and changed around everything that needs to be changed. Maybe now it’ll be sent to the right place.
  3. Sick – I think baby gave me his cold, I’ve been hacking up a lung.
  4. BAD WEATHER BREWING! – All news reports seem to tell me that a big storm is heading our way. Because of this, the Cape May/Lewes Ferry is most likely NOT going to be up and running. This means that if we don’t get there early enough to find out for sure, we’re going to have to drive about 2 1/2 hours north to get to Atlantic City. I wouldn’t necessarily mind this, but there’s also the NOON check in that has to be factored in here. Even if the storm doesn’t actually HIT us, there was some tropical thing brewing off Virginia’s coast (or something) and that’s sending surf advisories for those along the coast. I would assume Lewes (being as the ferry does leave from here) would be included there. (More updates later after I sit my fat ass down and watch the news)
  5. Poor Dog! – Princess keeps eating Bella’s food. Now not only is Bella starving (and refusing to eat) but Princess has a few allergies and she wound up eating two of them. She’s allergic to eggs and chicken. I gave Bella a bowl of meat loaf which had egg whites in it. She’s not allergic to it so I really don’t care how bad some may think it is to feed a dog eggs, I’ve seen ladies share ice cream with their dogs – which is more disgusting? And, last night I gave Bella some chicken and she didn’t eat much of it so there was still a bit of the bowl down when I fell asleep last night. 8 hour old chicken means nothing to Princess, an always hungry dog. Now she’s beyond bloated and can barely walk on her little mini dachshund legs.

:: UGH! ::

It’s just not right!

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Alexa is sending out mixed signals at the moment and I have to say, I don’t like it very much. According to their site my rank went down (which is a good thing to those who don’t know much about Alexa). The badge on my site, however, tells me that nothings changed. I thought this was a fluke, I cleared my cache and then tried again. Nothing changed. I’m unhappy about this.

Google should change back to a PR5 sometime soon, possibly PR6 so I’m not overly concerned there. Technorati is steadily dropping in rank which is pretty good as well. Not too sure what I’m doing there but something tells me sometime in the next few days when I get around to finishing up return comments, those numbers will change as well.

How can things be so simple yet so complicated at the same time? I just don’t get it!

Yea … I can’t read that.

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

I’ve gone on numerous rants in the past about webmasters color choices but tonights choice takes the cake. I don’t condone showing screen shots of others sites, why drive traffic to them. Below I’ve pasted a color swatch of what this persons site looks like. I’d like you, the visitor, to tell to me exactly why you think I didn’t even bother giving the site a second look. Note that I’m only including a sentence from their most ‘interesting’ post and the colors listed are exactly how the site looks. The background really is this hex code, the content area really is this hex code. The text is really this crazy color and this type face.

Dumb Ass?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ Website Colors

Never mind the fact that the colors are blinding, the fact that this person can’t spell for shit, or the fact that there’s people out there PRAISING her ‘dezine skilz’. Excuse the fact that this child, well – 24 year old – was allowed to have a computer, let alone a website.

At first I thought “Hey, this person could be using a transparent iFrame”. Nope, I was wrong. Firefox wasn’t the only browser that didn’t like them. Even MSIE listed the site in the reject section of the universe. At least something loaded in Firefox, thanks to my ad-free browsing. This person has their own domain, but I assume it’s still on a free server considering there are both top, bottom and popup ads with the initial load of the site. See, even I’m getting better about shoving those off the top of the page and moving them down.

I’d like to hold xposure responsible for this. They were the ones whom sent me here and deserve all the credit. I appreciate what they’ve done for me and if any of the administration (if an admin actually exists) happen to float by my site any time soon. I request to be removed from your database, considering all email has gone unanswered for the last six months!

Drug Rehabilitation

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I know I’ve posted about drug rehab in the past but this is because it’s a topic that I feel strongly about. There are places all over the united states where you, or a loved one, can go and get the treatment that they need. Drug addictions and alcohol abuse are not only for ‘certain kinds of people’. They’re stretching as far down as you’re 10 year old brother. We’re considered the prescription generation, you don’t need booze and cocaine to tickle your fancy these days. With all of the medications out there – pain killers, uppers, depression medication – there are many routes one can take that will eventually lead to massive harm caused to their bodies, minds and personalities in general.

One place that offers relief for adults is Cliffside Malibu. It’s a residential drug rehab, alcohol rehab center and extended care facility for adults suffering from alcoholism, drug abuse, eating disorders, depression and other co-occurring orders. Their drug treatment philosophy incorporates a variety of clinical component’s to create a comprehensive and effected treatment program. The components of alcohol and drug rehab include detox, individual therapy, group therapy, depression treatment, and alternative medicine. Their drug rehab program values and utilizes philosophies to individualize their treatment plans and to improve individual outcomes.

If you live in the California area, I’m sure this article would be of some help to you. Note that some drug rehab facilities don’t require you to live in state in order to get the help you need. A friend of mine was shipped off of Long Island and sent to a facility in Ohio. Each facility is set up to meet specific needs. Maybe Cliffside Malibu in California could help you with yours.
