Drug Rehabilitation

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I know I’ve posted about drug rehab in the past but this is because it’s a topic that I feel strongly about. There are places all over the united states where you, or a loved one, can go and get the treatment that they need. Drug addictions and alcohol abuse are not only for ‘certain kinds of people’. They’re stretching as far down as you’re 10 year old brother. We’re considered the prescription generation, you don’t need booze and cocaine to tickle your fancy these days. With all of the medications out there – pain killers, uppers, depression medication – there are many routes one can take that will eventually lead to massive harm caused to their bodies, minds and personalities in general.

One place that offers relief for adults is Cliffside Malibu. It’s a residential drug rehab, alcohol rehab center and extended care facility for adults suffering from alcoholism, drug abuse, eating disorders, depression and other co-occurring orders. Their drug treatment philosophy incorporates a variety of clinical component’s to create a comprehensive and effected treatment program. The components of alcohol and drug rehab include detox, individual therapy, group therapy, depression treatment, and alternative medicine. Their drug rehab program values and utilizes philosophies to individualize their treatment plans and to improve individual outcomes.

If you live in the California area, I’m sure this article would be of some help to you. Note that some drug rehab facilities don’t require you to live in state in order to get the help you need. A friend of mine was shipped off of Long Island and sent to a facility in Ohio. Each facility is set up to meet specific needs. Maybe Cliffside Malibu in California could help you with yours.

Who would you chuck?

I don’t know where I find my links but I came across an interesting question of the day that I wanted to share (and hopefully get a response) with you.

You’re on a plane and strapped in tight with your parachute and you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve been given 3 extra parachutes, but there are 4 other people who need them while the plane is crashing down. Who will you not give one to:
Tom Cruise, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, or Kevin Federline?
Why?

Considering I can’t stand any one of these people, I think the only one I’d actually like to throw out of a plane would be Tom Cruise. He’s gone off the deep end anyway and the fact that he’s involved himself in a religion that states whomever makes more money in the marriage gets the child in the divorce. I’m sorry but if Katie carried the kid for nine months, latched it to her tit for another 18 months or so and then raised the kid right (lord knows he can’t) she should be entitled to full parental authority over the damn kid.

So, anyway – back to the original question at hand. Which one of them would you throw out of a plane without a parachute?

Baby already gave me his answer though, he said he’d chuck them all out but leave Jessica considering she’s the hottest. Go figure, he chooses the only one with boobs.

Playing dirty…

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

Have you ever watched a game on TV (of any contact sport) and wanted to just hop through the screen onto the field and beat down someone on the opposing team because of either a useless call or someone just playing dirty? Well…someone actually turned that bad thought into reality.

Cory Petero, 36, of Riverbank, turned himself in to Stockton police Saturday night following what witnesses described as a late hit that turned into a brawl, with parents and children from both teams fighting on the field.

You can find the entire article on AOL Sports News

I’m normally a confrontational person and yes, I have my moments of rage where I’ll throw up and hit someone, this is just how I am. I will never bring myself to this point unless someone has completely crossed the line. But, no matter who it is, I would never lay my hands on a child in a manor of causing severe harm. Especially if it’s based on something as stupid as a football mishap. Sure, there have been kids that I’ve looked at and wondered why their parents never cracked them on the ass, but to intentionally go out of my way to bruise a child’s stomach and jaw is beyond absurd.

Based on reports, there were no major injuries suffered by anyone. But…am I wrong for thinking that this 36 year-old man should be beaten senseless? Am I wrong to think that someone should just sneak up on this guy and beat the living hell out of him? I truly believe that the only reason the injuries were minor was based entirely on the fact that this child was wearing a good 20lbs of football equipment when it happened. How much damage could this guy have done if it were a soccer game and the only ‘protection’ this child was wearing was a jockstrap/cup?

There are plenty of other ways to get rid of rage, even if it’s based on a child playing dirty. I’ve seen dedicated coaches before but this man truly crossed the line the minute he laid his hands on this boy. I’m sure I would feel differently if they were closer to the same age but there is a good 23 year age difference between these parties, that instantly brings up a red-flag for me. Whether the child was covered in protective gear or not, it still doesn’t make a difference.

I’d personally shoot the bastard for this, but that’s because of my own pent up rage. I know too many people who were abused by parents either sexually or just being smacked around in general and if I had a bullet for each one of them, I’d use it. This guy would definitely be included. Part of me wonders if he could do this to someone elses child, what has he done to his own son for doing something wrong?

So my question to you is this:

If you were witness to this, what would YOU do?

Myspace Sucks!

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Okay, so while I was doing some google searching today for jobs I came across a site in full dedication to the suckness that is Myspace.com. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed this hard in my entire life.

myspacesucks.8m.com

The interesting thing about this site is the fact that they go out of their way to say exactly what you’re thinking in regards to myspace.com. I almost pee’d a little for laughing so hard…and yes, I’ll admit to that.

I do wish that their shop contained more than hats, tee’s and buttons. I’m considering emailing them and requesting cups, mouse pads and other goodies to really bring attention to the tragedy that is myspace.com

Go, read, comment with your thoughts, enjoy!

I guess the only reason for that is because I honestly don’t have very much to say right now. I’m working my ass off, and have been for the last couple of days. Between work and just getting things done around the house, I haven’t had any real time to myself. It’s nice to sit back and relax now that I’m done with work for the day but that still doesn’t help the fact that I’m running on four hours of sleep at the moment.

I spent the entire day outside today. I did this because the heat wave is over and I was able to enjoy a nice breeze mixed with 80°F (26°C) weather. I usually dislike any weather over 75°F (23°C) but considering it was over 100°F (37°C) this past week, it’s a welcomed temperature, trust me. I got an email the other day, asking me why I include the °C mark with all of my posts. To answer this, a lot of my visitors come from other countries (other than the USA) where °C is the standard. So to avoid their confusion – I convert the degree for them, no big deal.

I used to visit blogideas.com frequently looking for blog topics. Unfortunately that domain has long since expired so now I’m kind of stuck for topics. If anyone happens to know of a site to get blog topics from, please let me know. I could always blog about daily life but that’s really nothing of interest to me these days. I have a lot going on that’s both good and bad, but I just don’t wish to discuss it here. So, I’m basically looking for something to fill in the space. So if anyone has any topic ideas, please let me know…ok?

I would just say send me some links to Meme’s but those really don’t fill the void for me. I’d like topic ideas that make me think. So even if you don’t know a site, ask a couple of questions in the comments and maybe I’ll write them down and actually come up with something creative, instead of boring you to death of course.

In any event, it’s getting close to midnight and I’m a little tired. I have to return some comments from the previous entry and then go lay down for the night.

Question: What would you like me to post about? Give me some ideas!

The Mobile Meme

Sunday, June 4th, 2006

I’ve wanted to come up with something fairly different for quite some time now and I’ve decided to start a new meme. For those who don’t know what meme is, it’s an idea that is shared and passed from blog to blog, like a question posted in one blog and answered in many other blogs. Mine is based on mobility. I figure maybe once every two weeks or so I’ll pick a random place for users and their laptops to go to where they’ll be very descriptive about their surroundings. It’d be a surprise to see how many descriptive words can be used about the same place just by different people.

If you’re at all interested, just comment…let me know. I’d love to see how much of a take-off this would get.

You don’t have to have a laptop but it’s preferred. You can also use a pen and paper until you can get back to your desktop to write it up. I’ll send you to places that won’t cost you any money – maybe not even cost you any gas either. Places like a corner in the living room, your bathroom, a different spot in your bedroom that you never thought to sit down and relax in. A coffee shop, a parking lot, any random place that I’ll pull out of my butt. Note that the places I will most likely send you to are known to have a wireless connection. If not, that’s where your trusty notepad, wordpad, or pen and paper come into play.

So…what do you think? Would you do it?

Network Neutrality

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Sean brought a few websites to my attention today and based on the fact that everyone whom visits here obviously uses the internet (in some form or another) you should be interested in this.

Quoted from – savetheinternet.com.

What is network neutrality?
Network neutrality ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù or “net neutrality” for short ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù is the guiding principle that preserves the free and open Internet.

Net neutrality ensures that all users can access the content or run the applications and devices of their choice. With net neutrality, the network’s only job is to move data ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù not choose which data to privilege with higher quality service.

Net neutrality is the reason why the Internet has driven economic innovation, democratic participation, and free speech online ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù and the public demands Congress not dismantle it. It’s why the Internet has become an unrivaled environment for open communications, civic involvement and free speech.

What’s at stake?
Decisions being made now will shape the future of the Internet for a generation. Before long, all media ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù TV, phone and the Web ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù will come to your home via the same broadband connection. The dispute over net neutrality is about who’ll control access to new and emerging technologies.

On the Internet, consumers are in ultimate control ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù deciding between content, applications and services available anywhere, no matter who owns the network. There’s no middleman. But without net neutrality, the Internet will look more like cable TV. Network owners will decide which channels, content and applications are available; consumers will have to choose from their menu.

The Internet has always been driven by innovation. Web sites and services succeeded or failed on their own merit. Without net neutrality, decisions now made collectively by millions of users will be made in corporate boardrooms. The choice we face now is whether people can choose the content and services they want, or whether the broadband barons will choose for them.

What can I do to help?
Sign the savetheinternet.com petition.

Call your representatives today ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù especially if they’re on the House Commerce Committee ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù and demand that net neutrality be protected.

Encourage groups you’re part of to please join the SavetheInternet.com Coalition.

Tell your friends about this crucial issue before it’s too late.

So, as you can see I’m asking you to head over to savetheinternet.com and sign this petition. Do not let ISP’s regulate our internet services.

Bad Business Etiquette?

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

I’ve noticed a trend with fellow webmasters that I’m just not too crazy about. With the rise of blogs on the ‘net, it’s almost inevitable that someone will find you and ask you to design a theme for them. This is just fine and dandy because all money is good money.

The problem I have is with those who get paid and don’t actually do any work. I surfed through a few portfolios today the running theme between them all was the fact that they were all based on the SAME theme. The only thing that was changed was the header image. Now, normally I wouldn’t really notice but I found this to be a little absurd. One girl was basically charging $50 for WordPress themes that were all using the same code. The only changes were in the header images and CSS coloring. I went through her ‘theme preview’ and saw that all coding was the same.

If she was charging $50 for amazing images, then of course I would understand. But she’s not…it’s like she’s surfing through Getty images, and cropping the watermark out and then slapping it onto the template. If someone wants a simple theme – fine go for it – but when you’re paying $50 for something, you’d expect that person to spend more than FIVE MINUTES working on your theme, wouldn’t you?

I work on the ‘net, it’s my main income right now. I make it a point for every single client to start from scratch. Yes, as far as the WordPress files go for index.php and comments.php I take the ‘classic’ theme and edit it to match the particular theme I’m working on. However, the outcome of each theme looks different 99.9% of the time. I’m not taking the same two-three column layout, strapping a header image into it and then edit style.css – that isn’t WORK, that’s called screwing over a customer. The idea is to make the customer HAPPY this way they are a RETURN CUSTOMER. If you screw the customer over, there’s the chance that they just won’t come back a second time. If they do, then abuse it because they’re idiots and don’t know any better anyway.

I just can’t understand how anyone could recycle a layout (probably the same code they use on their OWN blog) and edit a few things then turn around and sell it for $50-$100. I find it to be completely absurd.

Maybe it’s because I’ve run my own business for so long…or maybe it’s because I have respect for my clients. Who knows? I just don’t quite understand how people could do such things. I’m aware of the fact that 50% of the internet is brain-dead, but good lord taking them for granted is just horribly bad business etiquette.

So, answer me this – Do you think it is acceptable to charge $50-$100 for something you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve put five minutes of work into?

Comment your little hearts out, I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢d really like to know what someone else thinks.
