Bassabid

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

There are many people making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year by selling things online. It’s absolutely no surprise to me when you see other bid sites come up like bassabids.com to jump on the bandwagon. It’s not based on user bids, however. It’s a lowest bid wins kind of site. The cool thing about it is that you don’t get someone’s old items, you receive factory direct items without the store based prices. This is a pretty common thing, especially on the internet. Users send in their lowest unique bid over their cellphone or through a form online and whomever sends in this bid, gets the item.

I just think it’s cool that you can get yourself a mac notebook, $2400 value, for 57 cents. A few winners on bassabids have one iPod shuffles for $0.92, $0.70 and even $0.51. Considering it’s a $100 item, I’d say that’s not a bad deal at all. There are currently bids for a 17″ Mac Notebook, Sony 46″ TV, Mini Cooper S Convertible, iPod shuffle and even an AppleTV.

If you’re looking for a place to pick up a very cool item, without the freakishly high price tag, bassabid.com is the place to go.

Lap of Luxury

Friday, May 4th, 2007

I like nice things, there’s nothing wrong with this. Every woman is entitled to something that makes her happy, no matter how big or small it may be. The thing I love the most is knock off designers. Yes, I know I’m not paying full price for Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Dior, or even Chanel (drools) – but I also know that most ‘replica’ or ‘knock off’ bags are actually the designers they claim. See, most designers hold their product in such high regard that any single imperfection causes it to be ‘void’ of any real value. I own legitimate Chanel, Prada and Louis Vuitton purses but since there is a small issue with each of them, their price tag dropped from $600+ to $20+. That’s a huge drop, but all of the serial numbers and certifications are in tact (yes, they’re real.) The one bag I am proud of, however, is my $1500 Louis Vuitton bag. I drool over it every chance I get. See, I get nice things too (it was a gift, one that I couldn’t help myself from accepting.)

I was lucky enough to grow up with aunts who saw the importance of designers. One of my aunts won’t wear anything unless it’s a designer and that’s because she makes enough money to do it. She can tell you where every designer is in New York City and then, even if she’s not in the market to purchase something, she’ll buy something that probably costs more than two months rent for the average person. This is the wrong kind of influence on someone like me, but I’m still walking around with a designer handbag and you’re raiding the rack at Walmart, figure that one out.

I like big bags though, the one thing I absolutely can’t stand are the small hand/clutch bags that make no real sense to the world. Women carry a lot around in their purses, especially mothers, so how they can cram everything they need into one tiny change purse is absolutely beyond me. I like to have a place for everything and a larger bag plays a big roll in it. I can always be found with a bottle of water, my cigs, and a rather large prada wallet (matches one of my purses) so it’s hard for me to even use a bag that’s smaller than that. Everything has a place and there’s a place for everything. When I go to A.C. I can guarantee that I’m bringing a larger bag with me for the chance that I do win some big-cash like I did before. I made the mistake of bringing one of my smaller bags and could barely fit anything in there. This time, I’m making room for it all.

It’s all about preparation.

Outside Help

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

As far as statistics go, there’s a 10% chance that you WON’T be in debt at some point in your life. With the cost of living going up, and pay checks remaining the same, it’s hard to live within your means without some kind of outside help (loans, credit cards, etc) or even the ability to just break even. Unless you have a joint budget with your wife/husband/mate, you’re most likely spending more than you’re bringing in. Savings accounts are dwindling and no one is really happy with where they currently are.

I’m a saver, while I do binge on random items, I penny pinch. It’s how I was raised. There’s no point in dropping money on items that you don’t really need. Money earned is meant for bills, food, etc. Sure, sometimes you can find me at either Wal-mart or Kmart looking for clothes but that depends on the status of my closet. I don’t intend to be making any immediate purchases considering I’ve been losing about 5 pounds a week for the last few weeks. My goal is to drop quite a bit and there’s no point in spending money on clothes when I’m going to have to keep buying more.

I like nice things, I won’t deny this. I just don’t see the point in spending money on them when they aren’t really necessary. Yes, I don’t need two computers but when you work online as much as I do, it’s nice to have a bit of variety. I can’t sit at a desk all day, I need to move around. I’ve been on the desktop all night while my laptop takes a break, you can find me on that more than half of the time.

I just think it’s important that people start living within their means, and not depending on the banks/government to pay their way. It’s sickening to me.

Not happening.

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

I know that I’ve been talking a lot about loans lately but this is based on the fact that while money is coming in fairly well at the moment, it’s all going towards my trip on the 12th. In the long run, however, I don’t ever see myself actually getting a loan. The reason so many people are in debt is because they’re living far beyond their means. Sure, you need to get a mortgage on that house of your dreams, but even if you paid for the house in cash you’d have to pay off a mortgage for a possible tax break in the future.

No matter which route you take, you’re screwed. Secured loans, home improvement loans, re mortgage loans, car loans, personal loans, student loans, and any other financially damaging thing they’d give you a loan for. Everyone is so willing to give you money just so they can beat you senseless with interest rates.

I don’t like the idea of a secured loan. I don’t like that in order to borrow a couple hundred dollars to pay the bills that you have to put your house or your car up as collateral. I’m sorry but anyone stupid enough to take this route deserves to lose their property. If you don’t have enough money to pay your cell phone bill, why not throw out the phone? If you can’t afford your rent because of your location, move to a place that you can. Having a cable internet, HDTV cable and a VOIP phone is a want, not a need.

Anyone can cut corners in order to cut back on their bills, the problem is that no one wants to because they feel they deserve everything that they’re getting. If it’s the choice between feeding your children or getting yourself a new outfit, and you choose the outfit – forget the debt, call CPS.

That’s just my take on it, at least.

That special someone.

Finding someone special online can be a costly experience. The crew over at justsayhi.com went out of their way to make things easier on you. They offer a 100% free dating service. You don’t have to pay a monthly subscription just to contact someone you’re interested in. Sites like match.com and matchmaker.com may offer a specialized formula to finding the best person for you but only YOU know who’s best for you.

Justsayhi.com doesn’t have a long sign-up process. You create your account, upload a few pictures, make a profile and then you’re connected to thousands of people who are all there for the same reason – to just say hi in order to find someone they may be compatable with. You can search their database for men or women within any age group (over 18 of course) and within any distance from your house. If you happen to come across a profile that interests you, you can email them for free. There’s a 60-second sign up process in order to get yourself into their database, a MINUTE to sign up as opposed to the half hour exam you need to take in order to get onto eHarmony just so you can find yourself the perfect match. They claim this exam is free when in reality you have to pay to get your results, so what’s the point? You made it that far – you have no choice? I don’t think so. Take the free route and keep your wallet happy – head over to justsayhi.com.

Lighting Up

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

With the upcoming remodel of both the office and the bedroom, we’re going to do some serious updating as far as lighting is concerned. The ceiling fans are in good condition because the house is only two years old. The lighting attached to them is OK but it’s a little too bright to help with concentration. I know that may sound strange but when you look at a monitor all night, extremely bright lights around you can make it difficult to see anything by the end of the day. It also makes it hotter in there because the room is literally a little cubby-hole with one window that barely picks up a breeze because of it’s location in the room.

We’re looking for lighting fixtures that don’t give off a lot of heat and are still enough light to keep us both comfortable enough to work. We also have to factor in that, since we’re in a small room, we don’t need a vast amount of fixtures. Simple desk lamps may suffice but I think anything over a 40 watt bulb would be kind of stupid considering a 40 watt would brighten up the room more than enough for our eyes to focus.

World Travel: Amsterdam

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Recently an old friend of mine moved to Amsterdam. I’m not sure he moved there for the…kosher…purposes but I do know he loves the environment (when he’s not stoned at least). So it got me to thinking about the places around the world that I’d like to visit and oddly enough, after doing some research through easytobook.com, I learned quite a bit about Amsterdam that I didn’t know before.

I was already aware of the red light district, but show absolutely no interest in it…even though it seems to be one of their key attractions for coming there. I also knew of the Anne Frank house but there’s an erie feeling in my stomach when I think about going through it. What I wasn’t aware of, and was basically ignorant for it, was all of the museums. By my count there are EIGHT of them for you to visit during your stay. There are also quite a few theaters as well.

I’ve also priced a few things in relation to a stay there. A four night stay will only run me about $1,000. Of course this is just for the hotel stay, there really wasn’t much listed about air-fare, I guess that can be factored in later though. It may actually be a prominent possibility for a future trip, who knows.

The nice thing about easytobook.com is they also show you the pricing in two other countries, Barcelona and Rome. In the future they’ll offer prices for hotels in London and Prague, not just Amsterdam Hotels. It may be worth keeping it bookmarked for future reference.

FlipTrack.com

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I’ve got my newest bookmark and it’s probably one of the cooler ones to ever come across. FlipTrack.com uses patent pending technology that lets users create their own music videos using their photo and video content. Their technology automatically matches images to the rhythm and beats of the song which makes it easy to create movie-quality videos. There are a few examples on the site, you can find them in the fliptrack.com browse section. They have videos in all categories and after watching a few of them, I have to say that they’re fairly interesting. The images morph in and out the way any slide show would but it really does morph them to the beat of the background song. A few of the ones I came across were rap songs, not in my personal taste, but there’s so many to choose from that it was easy to find a video or two that I like. I think you should check it out, those of you with large photo galleries and a play-list would have some serious fun with it, I’m sure.

Head over to fliptrack.com, you may enjoy yourself.

Sleepy and way behind!

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

I’m feeling pretty unproductive today but that’s my own fault entirely. When I woke up this afternoon, all I really wanted to do is go back to bed. So…I did. I know there was a lot of work to get done but I put it on hold for the sake of catching up on much needed rest. That didn’t work out as planned though. I woke up around 6PM, starving – so I wound up having Baby bring me to the store to pick something up. Then I called home and let Dad know that I was going to be coming up on Saturday and leaving on Monday afternoon. He seemed OK with it but I’m almost positive that it’s a front.

Money is still coming in good, so I’m not too concerned about being able to handle things while I’m down here. I’ll be taking quite a few trips to Staples until the office is taken care of. I also know I’ll be doing quite a bit of shopping on BestBuy.com because I’d like to do a bit of updating as far as electronics go in the bedroom. Baby and I are interested in a larger TV as well as a Wii because he’s really interested in getting one.

I need furniture though, I was going to go through the company his mom works with. I’m sure she could get us some kind of an employee discount but I also know that the business has things on back-order from six months ago because they can’t afford to pay the vendors. Yea, her boss knows nothing about running a business. So the other alternatives would probably be either Overstock.com for the big things and maybe either Kmart or Target for everything else. I’m sure I’ll be able to find something, somewhere. As usual I’ll be using my trusty coupon site to be looking for the absolute best deals I can find.

I guess I should get my butt in gear and finish up some work, that’s the only way I’m going to be able to afford everything I need.

Shopping and Packing and Nerves…oh my!

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

We left here around 5:30 to head down to Georgetown and visit the oh-so-wonderful DMV. It actually went pretty quick, I think we were only there for about 20 minutes or so. That’s probably the shortest possible wait FOR a DMV. Every time I’ve gone to one in New York it’s taken at least 2 hours before you could even get to a teller, let alone leave.

After the trip we wound up at Wal-Mart getting some much-needed shopping done. I picked up some sandals because I’m getting sick of emptying sand out of my shoes when I go to the beach at night. I also loaded up on some more space bags. I should hopefully be set to go when I get up to New York as far as packing is concerned. Once I have my desktop I’m going to have to wipe out my hard drive on the laptop. I don’t really like the idea of having to do it but after a year of usage, plus almost killing it with disk-space usage before I got the external hard drive, there’s really no choice in the matter. I know for sure that I’m going to have to back up all of my fonts before I even consider wiping it out, thanks to font websites I’ve built up a database of over 3,000 fonts to keep my Photoshop looking spiffy. It would seriously suck to lose them all in the transfer.

Besides backing up fonts, I know that all programs (with no backup) and client files have to be moved to the external as well. A BIG move is Thunderbird because I honestly can’t afford to lose all my email. I’ve been working way too hard over the last few months in order to lose them. I just hope everything goes as planned.

I’m a tad-bit concerned about the reinstall though. The desktop was purchased without an operating system and since I paid for Windows with my laptop, I used the serial number from the laptop. Based on how I know Microsoft operates, I’m sure the serial number is now in their database as ‘used’ and I’ll have to make a phone call just to get it unlocked. I did pay for Windows either way, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. It’s not like I’m handing the disk out to friends, you know?

Bella is currently digging into my leg for attention so I guess I better take care of that before I get back to work. I’m about 4 hours behind at the moment and need to make that up before I go to sleep. I’m really getting sick of running on 4 hours of sleep (at most) these days. I wish I could just crash for 8 hours like normal people and enjoy the time in my dream world. Maybe after things settle down once I get the rest of my things down here, I’ll be able to relax a little bit more.

Something to look forward to…right?

Printer Problems

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Come May, Baby and I are taking a trip to Atlantic City with his mom (K). We’re going to meet up with her sister (D) and whomever else happens to be going down with D. Knowing that I had unused points on my Total Rewards card, I surfed Harrah’s and found out that I have a FREE two-night stay at the Harrah’s Hotel. This is the same hotel I won the $6,500 at the last time I was in Atlantic City (the one and ONLY time thus far). I have to say that I’m a huge fan of the place so of course I jumped on the idea of being able to go there. So when the dates were set I grabbed my laptop, headed online and booked the room for Baby and I.

After going through everything my confirmation was complete and I was asked to print my reservation. A big red light put my printing to a halt. There was absolutely no ink left in the printer. We went through all the trouble of networking the printer so I could print my reservation and there was absolutely no ink in the machine. After heading to the store to pick some up I happily printed my reservation. Now the problem is making sure I have more than enough money in the account to enjoy my two night, three day stay in Atlantic City.

Mac + Poker = FUN!

Friday, March 30th, 2007

Over the course of the next few months I intend to purchase an iMac (probably the 20″ but I’d kill for the 24″) the only real problem is the fact that I’m going to have to get all of the mac versions of programs I use frequently. I’m sure I can easily find Adobe CS and what not, it’s just my games that may be an issue considering a lot of them are based on Windows platforms. While doing some surfing again, yes – I love Google – I was able to find a few sites that have their programs based completely on Mac users. One of which is macpokeronline.com.

It’s nice to come across a site that will dedicate it’s scripts/programs to Mac based users intead of just Windows Based. I know that mac users are like 1:4 but with the rise in stability, people are slowly embracing Mac a bit more and converting over to it. Knowing that you can use all of your favorite programs on a Mac really helps make life a bit easier. I don’t consider myself a gamer but I do like playing games when I’m in the mood to. This is probably why I love Casino’s so much because there’s just so much to do there. Tables, slots, and video games make for a damn nice trip.

Mac Poker Online isn’t what you’d think it is. It’s an exclusive provider of information regarding online poker and casino games for Macintosh, saving Mac users hours of time. It’s hard looking for a site to play online Poker for Mac, let alone trying to find a site that you can trust with a good reputation. This site houses links for the best online poker sites for Mac based users. You can play for free or even for real cash at all of the sites listed. Each of the sites recommended to you have an excellent reputation and are by no means scams in any way shape or form.

The person who runs Mac Poker online put quite a bit of work into his website. It’s extremely organized, easy to read and gives you very clear and detailed reviews on all of the best sites for you to play online Poker. He rates the sites based on everything from Customer Service, Compatible Operating Systems and even the online Poker Tournaments.

Anyone who uses a Mac and is looking for top-notch sites to play Casino Games on should seriously consider checking out Mac Poker online.

Baths, Work, Internet…OH MY!

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

I’ve been pretty busy today. I landed a client on GAF so that was a bit of quick money, I’m still working on it at the moment. I had to stop for a little while because Bella really needed a bath, badly. It’s been a couple of weeks and since the weather is changing so frequently and going from rain to sun so quickly, she started to get a bit musty. A quick drop in the tub, scrub-a-dub-dub and now she’s baby powder fresh!

I spent the entire day in the house, minus some time spend on the porch to enjoy the sunlight. Baby and I are taking a big trip soon so we’re trying to conserve money any and every way that we can. This means we’re no longer going to be going out as frequently as we’ve been in the last few weeks. I’m sure we’ll randomly take our trips to the beach considering how beautiful it is at night but time away from work is less money to be made so hopefully things will even themselves out. We each need to save up about $1,000 so hopefully I’ll be able to do it over the course of the next month. This is probably why I should get my ass in gear with this clients account so I can move on to the next one.

The internet has been kind of touch and go today though. I’m not really sure why it’s happening, kind of annoying actually. For the last couple of years I’ve been used to having my broadband supplied by Optimum Online, the best in the world…honestly. Living in Delmarva my broadband is now being supplied by Comcast and I have to tell you, I’m not digging it at all. They don’t really offer anything good as far as up-link is concerned. If baby is uploading something it dramatically slows down the Internet and since it’s a VOIP phone connection, the service cuts out whenever you’re on the phone and something is being uploaded, maybe even downloaded for that matter. I swear once things are settled I’m switching over to Verizon as my broadband provider.

Weddings and Tables and Plans…OH MY!

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

My friend Alicia is currently in the process of planning her wedding. The date is set for November 30, 2007 but being as it’s only a little bit over a year away of course plans are already being made. She’s been looking for invitations, party favors and plenty of other wedding based stuff. I think that the invitations are probably the most important item in regards to setting the tone of the wedding. Now, I know I’m not getting married but when I get a snazzy invitation I would assume that it’s going to be a snazzy wedding, you know?

A few months ago she had to go to her future sister in-laws bridal shower. This woman is very set in her ways with extravagant items. She had a bridal registry at Bed, Bath and Beyond that was about 4 pages long. I don’t personally see the point but while we were looking around for things to get her, I came across the Table Mate. This is a product that I’ve been eying for quite some time. Ever since I bought my laptop, I’ve been using a corkboard as my ‘desk’ for stability so that I can easily maneuver my mouse and not have to sit at my actual desk day-in and day-out.

I’ve used this table at my aunts house and I have to say it’s really convenient. Being able to set it at different heights as well as bend it down for easy typing, as far as my laptop is concerned, it really worked out well. I found it to be a great thing to have around. It really can hold the weight and still slide easily as well. I wasn’t worried about being top-heavy when I went to push it back while I was getting up off the couch. I’d recommend this product to anyone looking for some convenience in their life. It is probably one of the few “As Seen on TV” items that actually holds up to what it says it’s going to do. I’d also recommend going through TVProducts4Less.com because they not only offer this product for $5 less, but you don’t have to wait 6-8 weeks in order to receive the product either…a great deal I’d say.

The big issue that has come up lately is the fact that Bella has been very timid around people. I’m not sure as to why, but it’s growing to be annoying. She’s spends hours upon hours on my lap and it makes it very difficult to get any work done because of it. I think it’d be easier for me to get things done if I owned a Table Mate. This way, she isn’t on top of my work area and she can still stay in my lap which is something she absolutely insists upon doing.

I guess I have more future purchases to make than I thought…eh?
