Running out of ideas!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

As some of you may, or may not know, I’m working on a new domain: blog-ideas.net. It’s going to house blog topic ideas, blog templates, blog resources, etc. I have a list of blog ideas but it’s no where near where I wanted it to be. If you happen to have any weblog topic ideas, I’d love to hear them.?Ǭ† They can be the simple run of the mill “What’s your favorite ____” kind of questions or they can be completely off the wall questions like “Pickles, Friend or Foe?” be creative. My creativity is slowly starting to subside but I think that’s based on the fact that I’ve spent so much time in the house for the last week. I really need to get myself down to the beach!

Choose your colors wisely…

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

ades-capturing-colors.png It’s rare when I come across a webmaster resource that makes me drool in excitement. There are thousands of programs out there to help webmasters get things done a little bit easier but there are very few that do everything they say they’re going to do without any hidden programs to install with it that will eat up your hard drive. Just this morning I came across a Color Picker software. It’s like having the eye drop/color chooser from Photoshop without having to boot Photoshop. It allows you to capture colors anywhere on the screen with a single click of the mouse and the really cool thing is you can instantly place these colors into HTML, RGB, C++, Visual Basic or even Delphi color codes. There’s even a color library where you can store your colors, change your colors and convert one color to another. With a right-click of the mouse you can even access the last 10 captured colors. It makes it very easy for you if you’re designing a template that requires specific colors and you have to refer to them often. It’s safe to say that Ades, the designer of this program is really going somewhere. This program only uses 1.4mb of disk space, and it’s excellently priced at $9.90. There’s a free trial if you’re interested in testing it out before you download it but I downloaded the trial myself and I have to say – I’ll be making this purchase very soon. It makes life very easy for me, even if you aren’t a designer and just like using random colors on word documents and chat programs – this would be a valuable resource for you as well.

Try it out, you may wind up purchasing it too.

Excellent Advise

When I come across a valuable resource, I typically like to share. I’ve found something on fatfighterblogs.com that I think would be interesting for any dieter. Below are 20 tips for permanent weight loss.

  • Exercise 30 to 60 minutes each day. If time is limited, exercise for several brief periods throughout the day ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù for example, three 10-minute sessions rather than one 30-minute session.
  • Eat three healthy meals during the day, including a good breakfast. Skipping meals causes increased hunger and may lead to excessive snacking.
  • Focus on fruits and vegetables. Top off your morning cereal with sliced strawberries or bananas. Stir berries or peaches in yogurt or cottage cheese. Liven up your sandwiches with vegetables, such as tomato, lettuce, onion, peppers and cucumber.
  • Weigh yourself regularly. Monitoring your weight can tell you whether your efforts are working and can help you detect small weight gains before they become even larger.
  • Don’t keep comfort foods in the house. If you tend to eat high-fat, high-calorie foods when you’re upset or depressed or bored, don’t keep them around. Availability of food is one of the strongest factors in determining how much a person eats.
  • Plan a family activity. Get the family together to go for a bike ride, play disc golf or kick the ball around in the yard.
  • Eat healthy foods first. Eat foods that are healthy and low in calories first so that when it comes time to enjoy your favorites ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù sweets or junk food, for example ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù you won’t be so hungry.
  • Pay attention to portions. Serve meals already dished onto plates instead of placing serving bowls on the table. Take slightly less than what you think you’ll eat. You can always have seconds, if really necessary.
  • Create opportunities to be active. Wash your car at home instead of going to the car wash. Bike or walk to the store. Participate in your kid’s activities at the playground or park.
  • Sit down together for family meals. Avoid eating in front of the television. TV viewing strongly affects how much and what people eat.
  • See what you eat. Eating directly from a container gives you no sense of how much you’re eating. Seeing food on a plate or in a bowl keeps you aware of how much you’re eating.
  • Vary your activities. Regularly change your activity routine to avoid exercise burnout. Walk a couple of days, swim another and go for a bike ride on the weekend. Seek out new activities ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù karate, ballroom dancing, cross-country skiing, tennis or Pilates.
  • De-stress your day. Stress can cause you to eat more. Develop strategies that can help you relax when you find yourself becoming stressed. Exercise, deep breathing, muscle relaxation techniques and even a good laugh can ease stress.
  • Eat at home. People eat more food in restaurants than at home. Limit how often you eat at restaurants. If you do eat out, decide what and how much you’re going to eat before you start and have the rest boxed to go.
  • Plan healthy snacks. The best snacks include fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products. Fruit smoothies, sliced fresh fruit and yogurt, whole-grain crackers, and carrot and celery sticks with peanut butter are all good choices.
  • Start your day with a high-fiber breakfast cereal, such as bran flakes, shredded wheat or oatmeal. Opt for cereals with “bran” or “fiber” in the name. Or add a few tablespoons of unprocessed wheat bran to your favorite cereal.
  • Walk for 10 minutes over your lunch hour or get up a few minutes earlier in the morning and go for a short walk.
  • Plan a week’s worth of meals at a time. Make a detailed grocery list to eliminate last-minute trips to the grocery store and impulse buys.
  • Look for a distraction when you’re fighting a craving. Call a friend, put on music and dance or exercise, clean the house, pull weeds in your garden, or run an errand. When your mind is occupied with something else, the cravings quickly go away.
  • Reward yourself. Losing weight and keeping the pounds off is a major accomplishment. Celebrate your success with nonfood rewards, such as new clothes or an outing with friends.

Atlantic City = BUST

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I’m sure I should have updated yesterday but I was a little big depressed after getting home from Atlantic City on Monday evening.

I wasn’t as lucky as I was the last time I went to A.C., I wound up losing about $700 which is fine because that money was specifically for the casino anyway. It just sucked that I couldn’t at least break even considering there are things to do around the house that the money could have been useful for. No worries, however, at the rate things are going I’ll have that back by the end of the week anyway.

I found myself falling asleep in the car, something I almost never do. I was knocked out for about an hour, then I came home to find out that Bella was hurt and she’d destroyed a few things. She tried to dig herself out of the bedroom, she managed to rip the rug to shreds and do some damage to the bottom of the door. I’m not sure if she got her paw caught or something but she was limping and $150 vet visit later, turns out there’s nothing they can really do for her. She’s on anti-inflammatory medication and that’s just about it. She does seem to be walking a little bit better now that they’ve cut her nails, but who knows if that was just a fluke or not. For all I know they could have gotten whatever may have been stuck in her paw, out, when they cut her nails.

I haven’t been feeling well on top of that. I feel a very nasty cold coming on so my time in front of the computer today was limited to getting clients setup and support emails taken care of. After that I did manage to get The Riches Fanlisting up and running and now I’m working on some paid posting that’s set to expire in a few days so I guess I need to get my butt in gear on that.

Hopefully I can have all of this done within the next hour, it’d be nice to get to bed early tonight. I’ll probably be up until 11 anyway, Lost is on tonight and there are only a few episodes left or something like that… I don’t know.

Curvy-Chick.net

Friday, May 11th, 2007

I’ve been working on a few side projects. While none of them are 100% where I’d like them to be right now, I can say that there is one ready to be ‘published’.

My newest blog is located at curvy-chick.net. I purchased the domain off Elizabeth when I found out that she was selling it. I wanted to start a weight-loss blog but didn’t exactly know where I wanted to place it. I had a private one located in a sub folder here but it just didn’t feel right. Once I saw the domain name, however, I fell in love.

I know I’m never going to be a skinny-mini chick and I seriously wouldn’t want to be either. I’ve always been a big girl and I don’t believe getting down to 120lbs would be the best thing for me. My goal is to get down to the 200 range, I only have 48 pounds left to go and the blog will be my outlet for everything.

Eventually it will house weight-loss resources and both free and paid blog templates for those with weight loss, fitness, food and regular journals – no matter what the topic. If you have a weight loss / fitness blog and would like to be linked, just email me and I’ll add you to the Blogroll.

I joined up a fairly large blogroll based on fitness/health blogs so hopefully my name will be plugged in there soon. For now, however, I’m very happy going through links and learning that I’m not the only one doing very well with this quest.

It’s just not right!

Alexa is sending out mixed signals at the moment and I have to say, I don’t like it very much. According to their site my rank went down (which is a good thing to those who don’t know much about Alexa). The badge on my site, however, tells me that nothings changed. I thought this was a fluke, I cleared my cache and then tried again. Nothing changed. I’m unhappy about this.

Google should change back to a PR5 sometime soon, possibly PR6 so I’m not overly concerned there. Technorati is steadily dropping in rank which is pretty good as well. Not too sure what I’m doing there but something tells me sometime in the next few days when I get around to finishing up return comments, those numbers will change as well.

How can things be so simple yet so complicated at the same time? I just don’t get it!

Yea … I can’t read that.

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

I’ve gone on numerous rants in the past about webmasters color choices but tonights choice takes the cake. I don’t condone showing screen shots of others sites, why drive traffic to them. Below I’ve pasted a color swatch of what this persons site looks like. I’d like you, the visitor, to tell to me exactly why you think I didn’t even bother giving the site a second look. Note that I’m only including a sentence from their most ‘interesting’ post and the colors listed are exactly how the site looks. The background really is this hex code, the content area really is this hex code. The text is really this crazy color and this type face.

Dumb Ass?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ Website Colors

Never mind the fact that the colors are blinding, the fact that this person can’t spell for shit, or the fact that there’s people out there PRAISING her ‘dezine skilz’. Excuse the fact that this child, well – 24 year old – was allowed to have a computer, let alone a website.

At first I thought “Hey, this person could be using a transparent iFrame”. Nope, I was wrong. Firefox wasn’t the only browser that didn’t like them. Even MSIE listed the site in the reject section of the universe. At least something loaded in Firefox, thanks to my ad-free browsing. This person has their own domain, but I assume it’s still on a free server considering there are both top, bottom and popup ads with the initial load of the site. See, even I’m getting better about shoving those off the top of the page and moving them down.

I’d like to hold xposure responsible for this. They were the ones whom sent me here and deserve all the credit. I appreciate what they’ve done for me and if any of the administration (if an admin actually exists) happen to float by my site any time soon. I request to be removed from your database, considering all email has gone unanswered for the last six months!

Movie Addicts READ THIS!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

While I don’t exactly condone it, Baby spends a lot of time and money on movies, most of which he hasn’t watched but has tucked away in his binder. Just recently he decided to write down all of his movie collection in a notebook thinking that it would be easier to get through everything. I don’t think that was the best idea considering he’s got a few hundred DVD’s to go through and a notebook doesn’t have a ‘search’ option.

During my usual daily poking around the ‘net, I came across a movie catalog software that offers so many features for your movies it’s unreal. With this program you can import information from internet movie databases, they have a barcode option for those with a scanner so the movie is instantly added to their database with literally the click of a button. You can search through your movies and even take screen caps FROM the movie and use them in your listing. Some people can remember things better from the movie than they can the box it came in. I just think that’s an awesome idea. There’s ALSO an HTML export option so you can list them on your personal/collective website and many other features that one can only imagine.

I just told him about this program and now he’s literally jumping for joy stating how badly he wants the program. If he doesn’t buy it for himself, I may just buy it for him. It’s only $35 for a single-user copy and with all of the movies he has, this’ll just make his life very easy – and mine in the long run. This is a pretty awesome program. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I can’t wait to download it.

Whoops, My Bad!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

While I’m not sure of his/her real name, The Raw & The Cooked left a comment on a previous entry listing their frustration with Google as well. Noting that the changes made to their website, just the title, is what also dropped their Google ranking. Doing some research into this, I realized that’s why I dropped as well. I changed “krissy.nu – life.unscripted” to “krissy.nu – life through the eyes of Krissy, uncut and unscripted”. So, I changed everything back to what it was before and now according to the future page rank generator I’ll be back up to a 5 within the next update. If things continue how they currently are, however, I’ll be pushed up to a 6 for sure.

Slow Day

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I wasn’t feeling well today so it kind of messed up my drive to really accomplish anything. I did, however, get a few new domains in order for a future launch. One is a weight loss blog and the other is a blog resource for both professional and standard journaling bloggers. I used to visit a site called blogideas.com, they only gave you a few random topics for blog entries in case you had writers block. I’m going a bit further with it though. I’m going to offer everything from blog topics to blog templates, blog resources and other common misconceptions about blogging that some may not understand.

I’ve hired Sean to help me out with things. I know he’s been programming a fairly large site so I got on his good side and asked him to help me program the database for this. I’m already designing things as far as the administration panel is concerned, the template for the site itself is already done. I’m sure I could do a bit of the programming but with the design business being so busy lately, I had to bring in outside help. I’ve been playing around, quite a bit, with the new Web 2.0 styles (larger lettering, 3d effects, etc) it’s turning out to look pretty nice. I hope to have everything launched by June. I figure giving myself a deadline will kick my ass into gear.

I should probably get going, Baby isn’t feeling well and I should go spend some time with him in front of the T.V. before we both wind up falling asleep. My eyes are already starting to close on me at the moment, I hate that feeling.

I’m impressed!

Monday, May 7th, 2007

The other day I noted my frustration because of being screwed over by an advertiser. I wasn’t frustrated with the sponsor I went through, it was the fraudulent advertiser that screwed me and lord knows how many other people. I log into my email after a few hours away from the computer to find a payment sitting in paypal from the sponsor. They updated their database to avoid future issues such as these and those whom completed this offer (having it pending in their payments) were compensated for it. I have to say that this company is seriously impressing me with how they handle things. I know I’ve sent in a few emails here and there asking questions but they’ve promptly answered them for me and are handling their site with complete professionalism.

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

There are many places around the world that I’m interested in visiting. Oddly enough, I’d like to go to Mexico. Right now, booking through vacations.net can offer you all inclusive resort in mexico with savings up to 50%. Their site is pretty cool too, some of their features include:

  • Compelling visual images & virtual tours.
  • In-depth information on the destinations including amenities & recreational activities.
  • Thorough information on accommodations with detailed room options.
  • All-Inclusive vacations sorted by vacation style and related preferences.
  • Resort ratings from travelers who have experienced the resort first-hand.
  • Hot Deals and much more?¢‚Ǩ¬¶

Don’t think this is only for a resort in Mexico. Vacations.net covers places all over the world. It doesn’t matter where you’re looking to visit, this site will help you out with all of your vacation needs. Check them out, you may be surprised with the kind of savings you’re going to get.

Damn Google!

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Google has finally updated their page ranks, after six months of being overdue. I’m pissed to find out that my rank dropped from a five to a four. I don’t quite understand why, either. My hits have been steadily on the rise for the last couple of months. I’m averaging about 1500 a day and I still don’t quite understand how I could have possibly dropped in rank. Alexa and Technorati went down but unlike GooglePR, when those numbers go down – it’s a good thing. It’s my goal to have Alexa in the 50K range, and technorati in the 20k range, hopefully I’ll be able to do that. I guess I’ll just have to keep pushing myself for it.

Yep, I’m tired

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

I’m sure it’s no surprise considering how much I’ve been online today but my exhaustion has finally set in. I hate when I’m busy working on things and my eyelids become so heavy that my vision starts to blur. What really sucks is that tends to happen when I’m in Photoshop. I guess it’s because I’m more focused on detail when I’m designing something than I am when I’m just writing something up or surfing the ‘net.

I’m working on something big with Baby. There was a site that I was involved with years ago that I kind of wish was still around. We’re going to work on programming it and then hopefully in the next few months we’ll launch it for heaps of good fun for all. I won’t go too far into detail on it now but I just think it’ll be a nice idea for the future of blogging. It’s ‘been done’ before, and no it’s not something like a comment rotation, it’s just clean fun for everyone that should hopefully do very well.

Bassabid

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

There are many people making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year by selling things online. It’s absolutely no surprise to me when you see other bid sites come up like bassabids.com to jump on the bandwagon. It’s not based on user bids, however. It’s a lowest bid wins kind of site. The cool thing about it is that you don’t get someone’s old items, you receive factory direct items without the store based prices. This is a pretty common thing, especially on the internet. Users send in their lowest unique bid over their cellphone or through a form online and whomever sends in this bid, gets the item.

I just think it’s cool that you can get yourself a mac notebook, $2400 value, for 57 cents. A few winners on bassabids have one iPod shuffles for $0.92, $0.70 and even $0.51. Considering it’s a $100 item, I’d say that’s not a bad deal at all. There are currently bids for a 17″ Mac Notebook, Sony 46″ TV, Mini Cooper S Convertible, iPod shuffle and even an AppleTV.

If you’re looking for a place to pick up a very cool item, without the freakishly high price tag, bassabid.com is the place to go.

Internet Marketing Forum

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

I had another post here but since an advertiser screwed me, it’s time to edit it. In referring to my comments I’m just going to post up a link that someone left behind:

http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/

If you’re looking for internet marketing strategies, this may just be the place to go. I don’t know for sure, I haven’t surfed around the site. You can go there, sign up and then let me know about it.

Technorati:
