Cabin Fever…

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Is it possible to get cabin fever two nights in a row? Last night I kind of forced baby out of the house so we could go down to the beach. Sure, the waves and everything were great but I just really, really wanted to get out of the house. Now it’s a little after 11PM and although he’s busy working in the office, I kind of want to go bother him to see if he’d be interested in going back to the beach for a little while. Both of us seem to work better when we’ve spent some time on the beach. Based on the weather report, it’s still a bit cloudy outside but there also isn’t really any rain in the forecast for the next few hours so maybe I can use that as a selling point.

I just finished watching The Riches, god I love this show. OH! I almost forgot to mention – I was approved to run it’s fanlisting. So I need to get my butt in gear and get that setup. I don’t want to do the basic “About – Rules – Codes – Join – Members” crap, I think I’m going to go further with it and do like cast bios, photos, quizzes and other shit…just to keep it interesting. It’s going to take quite a bit of work but I can setup the basic site for now and then expand with it over time. I’ll be registering a domain for it in the future, I need to get $60 together to register k.nu because it expires in a few weeks. I guess I need to get my ass in gear on more work – eh? LOL

Five Tips To Reduce Your Credit Card Bills

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Brought to you by CreditCardFlyers.com

Outstanding credit card balances can get the better of you if you don’t keep them under control. Here are five essential tips for reducing the amount you owe:

1 ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Take advantage of 0% balance transfer deals. You’ll need to work out how much you’ll be charged to transfer a balance, but you will usually save money over the life of the deal.

2 ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Pay more than the minimum each month if you can. Even paying just a little more than is required every time will reduce your outstanding balance (and any interest charged) quicker than you would otherwise.

3 ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Work out a monthly budget and stick to it. This will not only enable you to pay off your credit card balance each month, it will also ensure you don’t habitually pay for more purchases with your cards ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú sending your balances higher still.

4 ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Be determined ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú cut up your credit cards. If you really don’t feel comfortable doing so, either ask a trusted friend or family member to hold onto them for you, or keep the one with the lowest interest rate for emergencies.

5 ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Look out for cut price interest deals. If you can’t transfer your whole balance onto an interest free deal, transfer as much as you can and look for a low promotional rate to transfer the rest onto.

Find out how much the interest rate is on each of your cards ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú if you have more than one ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú and transfer the highest rated one first. You can save a significant amount of money just by doing this.

One final tip ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú if you’re currently paying $100 a month off your credit card balance, and shifting to a lower rate means you only pay $60, try and maintain the $100 payment if you possibly can. You will reduce your balance a lot faster and pay far less interest.

Go away, damn it!

So while doing my usual email checks today, I came across an email from a friend I hadn’t spoken to in quite some time. They went on and on about how things are going, where their life currently is, and eventually rubbing it in about how great things are going. Then, as this person typically does, they asked for a favor.

Now, I don’t know about you – but when you don’t speak to someone for five+ years because of how stuck-up they are, you’d think they’d get the picture on just WHY you let your conversations slip for that long. Is it just me, or are people getting even more dense as years go by?

I had my issues with this girl in high school. We didn’t really ever get along but since we hung out with the same group of people, I was the ‘bigger man’ and just let things slide. By the end of our little group (it slowly broke up over time, she was only there because she was a girlfriend of a friend) her and I had absolutely nothing to say to eachother. I still get along with her ex boyfriend, he’s one of my dear friends. But I swear if I ever saw this girl in the street, I’d make it a point to run her over.

Helping those in need.

PPPI’ve spoken in the past about drug addiction and rehab but that was based on things going on in my life that I felt, at the time, needed to be shared. I’ve lost loved ones to cocaine, heroine and an overdose of a mix of drugs that they shouldn’t have even been in the same room with, let alone ingesting. I wanted, so badly, to be able to help them but I knew that most of them were just so far gone, all you could really do is tip-toe around them and watch them kill themselves. I didn’t have the confidence to step in and do something about it. When they did finally pass on, I hated myself for not doing anything about it.

There’s a new site out now specifically for young adult intervention. I think it’s a pretty valuable resource for drug rehab, addiction treatment and substance abuse information. The site was created specifically for young adults whom need or want to be in a sober environment. Anyone in the college scene knows that a majority of the time…that just isn’t the case. Sober College is a residential program that creates a supportive and sober environment for young adults to recover from chemical dependency and other related issues. Young adults between the ages of 17-26 are eligible candidates. The friends I lost were 18, 21 and 25. Two of them were in college, that’s where these problems began. They couldn’t handle the stress of exams, the courses they were taking, or maybe even just the whole idea of being far away from home. If this program was around for them, maybe they’d still be alive today.

What happened to you?

Monday, April 16th, 2007

I’ve been working my butt off for the last 10 hours getting everything up and running for a client and he’s going out of his way to now avoid answering all emails from me. I’m sorry but if you’ve already gladly sent the down-payment (a lot quicker than most clients do) you’d think that they would actually have the decency to come through with the rest, considering I did everything in a timely manor.

He set a 7PM deadline, I completed everything by 6PM. It’s not like I’m asking for a tip or anything, I don’t even want to hear “Wow, nice working with someone who comes through with what they say”. I just want an email back telling me the quick corrections and that the payment is sitting in paypal for me. Is that so wrong? I mean seriously now.

I think it’s just one of those ‘I’m annoyed now’ kind of days, it seems to be heading that way.

Vacation Coming Soon!

Monday, April 16th, 2007

As regular visitors would know, I’m going to Atlantic City in May with the boyfriend for a fun-filled weekend get-away at the beautiful Harrah’s Hotel & Casino. Meeting us there will be his mother and aunt. I got lucky with my hotel reservations because I’m a Total Rewards member and my entire weekend is paid for thanks to the points on my membership card. We’re going up on Saturday and coming home on Monday and it’s VERY rare to get a FREE ROOM on a weekend, so I’m anticipating heaps of free fun before I even hit the slots.

His mother and aunt weren’t so lucky though, they had to search through websites for hotel discounts because booking directly through Harrah’s was going to cost around $400 a night. They’re only going for an over-night but $400 is still very steep for a hotel room. The issue is really that the booking is based on a weekend and considering it’s getting warmer and everyone is wanting to take trips down to the Jersey Shore, it’s obviously going to cost more money to stay overnight during a weekend than it would during the week. If they decided to make the reservation on a Tuesday, the room would be around $90. Absurd…no?

HotelReservations.com A good resource for vacation go-ers is hotel reservations .com because they offer quite a bit of information from hotels, motels, resorts and even vacation rentals. They’ve got excellent competitive rates and pricing. They also offer discounts on destinations WORLD WIDE. No matter what kind of commercials you see on television, only a handful search world-wide, so you’re really getting a deal here. Doing a quick search for rooms (located IN the casino) I found that their pricing was pretty darn good. A two night stay at Trump Marina is only about $300, which is a lot better than the ONE night stay that cost $400. That’s about $150 a night, something you can’t really complain about…It’s safe to say I’m keeping this site bookmarked for my next vacation.

I need ink!

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Getting the office setup has proved to be a bit more difficult than we’d originally thought. I desperately need a chair because the one I’m on at the moment is killing my back. It’s a standard folding chair so while I’m not rolling over any puppy’s tails, I’m still having trouble moving around once I pull the chair in (hard to move it on a rug – you know). The scanner has no home, as of yet, and of course with my largest concern during tax season, the printer is out of ink and I need to figure out how to get some toner cartridges before TOMORROW. Staples seems to be packed and I can’t find ANY overnight shipping that will be here by tomorrow morning. I honestly have no idea what I’m going to do.

For next year, however, I do know that I’ll have PLENTY of ink because I’m making it a point to load up on all of the toner cartridges I can find and keeping myself stocked up to void this tragedy from happening again. I’ve found the office supply outfitters which sell everything from toner, ink jet cartridges, printer supplies, fax supply, register ribbon and HP Toner. It’s a pretty valuable source for everything PRINT I’d say.

Now, for my next task – find a filing cabinet so I can get that last box unpacked!

Sluggish

Monday, April 16th, 2007

It’s been a pretty sluggish day. I’ve been working hard on returning comments (I’m very backed up). I stopped for a little bit to spend some quality time with the boyfriend and then took a much-needed shower. I don’t know if it’s the weather, or what, but even though I took a shower before I went to sleep last night, I woke up feeling absolutely disgusting for some reason.

I went to the beach with Baby last night before we went to bed. I know it was probably a stupid choice considering it was pouring but the waves were in the 10-12FT (4 Meters) range so I absolutely HAD to be on the beach to watch them. We stopped for our usual coffee at 7-11. The guy who works the over-night knows me pretty well at this point. He knows exactly what to give me once I get up to the register with my coffee and I have to love having someone like that serving me. I consider him to be my buddy, even though I don’t know his name – LOL.

Right now I’m flipping through channels and listening to all three dogs snore their little faces off. The three of them are under 20lbs (each) and manage to make more noise than baby does when he’s asleep and he can snore up a storm. I’ll just put my ear-plugs back in, there’s really nothing on TV anyway…there never usually is in the afternoon that’s of interest to me.

The flood-warning is still in effect for Kent and Sussex counties, a lot of rain has dropped on us. I know NY is getting it pretty bad right now but I’m not up there, I’m down here, so HMPH! Maybe I’ll bother Sean a bit and see how things are going in Rehoboth, he’s right on the water…must be NICE!

Designers catch a break!

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Any webmaster knows the importance of targeting your audience by using creative graphics, easy to navigate code and proper exposure. Those just starting in the field are finding it hard to find the right path to go on. There’s a new place that has a great ebook/template package for beginning web designers who need a simple template solutions. They specialize in Joomla Templates which is probably one of the most solid programs out there for content management.

You may be asking “What is Joomla?”, it’s actually pretty simple:

Joomla! is one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet. It is used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. Joomla! is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable.

With ClubTVK‘s program you get a copy of their e-book in PDF format, it’s 91 pages that give you step-by-step detail on how to create a Joomla template. You also get copies of all of the files in the book, that’s FOUR complete templates for Joomla. They often create new templates to highlight specific techniques, with your membership you get access to all of them plus a walk-through to figure how to impliment them to your site. This book covers some really important but simple ways to create your template without having any prior knowledge of Joomla. It truly is a Beginners Guide!

Some of the templates supplied are fairly simple looking but knowing the back end of Joomla, the way I do, I know that a lot goes into coding them properly. You need to format EVERYTHING in order to get it to do what you want it to do and I think this eBook would be of great value to anyone interested in using the script.

Installing Joomla is a lot easier than one would think. 100% of web hosts using Fantastico have Joomla listed in their auto-installers. All you have to do is type in the user name and password you’d like to use in your Joomla Administration Panel and then go from there.

Starting a Business?

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Women spend BILLIONS of dollars a year on make-up, clothing, personal care and accessories. Knowing this, you can easily dream of owning a successful business selling even one new, hip and cool item. Running your own little store is always a great idea but sometimes that can take away from the quality of your work. You’d have to set hours, rent/purchase a location, possibly hire someone to help you out if the store gets busy. It’s quite a bit of a hassle. You won’t bring in enough money at first so bills will be tight…a series of things could go wrong…you’d really need to think hard. Thanks to the internet, however, you don’t really have to think at all. You can design your products, get some free or even cheap web hosting to publish your name and then setup shopping cart software and start selling your products.

When surfing the net you come across quite a few websites where you can register an account to run your own e commerce website for little to no money. The company handles everything for you. The script installation, support to help you figure out what you’re doing and many other factors to help make your time online the best it can possibly be.

One site I’ve come across is Ashop Commerce. They offer you a no-installation required store. You can accept credit cards online, there are thousands of features with their scripts and they’re all easy to use. You can start selling instantly and you can completely customize the store to match your existing website. The really cool thing is they offer a 10 day free trial so you can get a feel for the program before you even spend any of your own money. I’d say that’s the best route to take, don’t you?

So if you’re interested in getting your own business up and running but don’t want to spend a lot of money doing it, head on over to Ashop Commerce and create your own shopping cart for free and start selling your heart out!

How do I get through THIS ONE?

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Baby and I were going over the bills the other day and while doing some poking around his credit card statements, I found out that the interest rates on his two cards are 19% and 24%. I know he owes like $2,500 on one card and $500 on another. When he got the cards a few years ago he bought things that he needed, his desktop and a digital camera, etc. The problem now is that we’re living together and pulling our assets together to see where we stand financially and his extra bills are really weighing us down. He’s probably paid back double what he’s actually spent but considering the interest rates keep building onto the current balance, he just can’t seem to get ahead no matter how hard he tries.

For the past few weeks I’ve been considering getting a credit card of my own. I figure that while business is coming in good at the moment, it’s not going to last very long and until I can hold down a solid 9-5, I’m still going to need some cash-flow for food, supplies, items for Bella, etc. While doing some hunting around creditcardflyers.com I was able to compare cards and offers to find the best card for me, financially. I’m 50/50 on getting a card because I’m not too keen on spending money that I essentially don’t have, but sometimes you really have no choice. I just don’t want to get to where Baby currently is. So, my first goal was to find a card with a low interest rate. Then of course it had to be with a respected company because I don’t want to get myself into an endless pit of debt. Based on comparison I’m going to go with either Bank of America or Chase, after that I have no idea what to do. I guess I’m going to have so spend some more time surfing the site before I can really grasp it.

A few have told me to consider a student credit card but I won’t be enrolled into college for another few months (if things go as planned) so that probably wouldn’t help me out right now, you know? So I think sticking with the low interest cards may be the best thing for me at the moment. I really don’t know what I’m going to do…I guess this required a lot more research than I’d originally thought.

I asked Baby how he managed to mess himself up the way he did and he gave me one of the dumbest answers I’ve ever heard. He signed up for one of his cards because he went to Home Depot to pick up a tape measure or something and he got a second one for free by signing up for a credit card. I looked at him with a blank stare for so long that I was on the verge of drooling. He went on to say that he never considered signing up through those companies that stand outside of colleges but he wishes he did because they probably would have had lower interest rates to offer him. Go figure.

Productivity is Me!

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Minus the fact that I’ve been a little under the weather, it’s been a fairly productive weekend. Baby and I took a quick trip to Dover yesterday. We had to pick up a Vacuum from Best Buy and then wound up at the Dover Mall to do some quick shopping. Considering I’m basically saving every dime I can for my trip to Atlantic City in May, it was killing me not to do any shopping at Boscovs, Sears, Target and even Best Buy (even though that’s Baby’s department lol).

I’m done unpacking, it’s been a bitch getting everything situated but so-far, so good. There’s a little bit of an issue with my desktop though, I thought I could just plug in my old graphics card but I need a PCI-E card, which I don’t have. I did some surfing on TigerDirect and other sites, after pricing I figure I can get a decent card in the $100 range. I’ll worry about that later on down the road though. I can handle the current card for a while considering I still seem to use my laptop for everything anyway. It’s hard to convert back to a desktop when you’ve been using a laptop for so long. Having a ‘server’ type thing setup for file storage is nice though…heh.

I’m not yet done with my email checks, I know there’s a few multi-emails (some urgent) from the same people that I’ve yet to respond to but I hope to have that done tonight. I’ve been running around the house most of the day. I did some baking because the batter just happened to be there. I cleaned most of the kitchen, there’s still a bit to organize on the island but that’s mainly mail and I don’t really have to worry about it too much. Right now I’m taking a short break before I get around to finishing everything else around the house.

I know it’s a little early but I started on the May template. I figured there’s no way I’ll be able to trump this April theme so it’s my goal to play with CSS quite a bit more and come up with something interesting. I did some surfing around today through template sites and threw together some ideas. I’m sure I’ll come up with something. It’s hard to be creative when you’re so drained from things going on. Thank god I have a vacation coming up soon and the 15 hour days for the next month will be worth it.

It’s been a pretty nasty day. There’s a supposed “Nor-easter” hanging over Delmarva. I know there were some tornado watches in Virginia and upstate NY (poor guys) are looking at quite a bit of snow fall. So much for enjoying April, eh?

In any event, I guess I should go finish up what I started. I just sent Baby out to get some dinner so it’d be nice to eat on a clean dining table…right? heh.

Romance isn’t dead.

Friday, April 13th, 2007

I consider myself to be very lucky that I’ve found my boyfriend, he’s done some very sweet things for me. From love notes and teddy bears, to date-nights and long walks on the beach…he’s just a romantic man and I can’t help but love him.

Living together is a strange adjustment period for the both of us but it’s nothing that we can’t handle. We haven’t lost any bit of emotional, romantic or even physical feelings for each other. We’ve been talking, not too seriously, about the rest of our lives, marriage, children, etc. While we’re both in our early 20’s, we know that we’re meant to be together. The last year with him has been amazing and he’s helped me to get through the absolute worst times in my life. I couldn’t ask for anything better.

He gets in his little moods where he claims that I can do ‘so much better’, I just wish he’d sit back and realize that I can’t do any better than him. I consider him to be the 100% ultimate happiness for me…I just need to work on getting him to believe it.

Miles + Sleep = Unproductive

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Minus a passing thunderstorm, it was fairly lovely today. Baby and I took an extremely long walk on the beach. We usually do a quick pass about halfway down the beach and work our way back but today we wound up in the next town to then turn around. It’s our goal to walk the entire strip (about 5 miles total) without our legs giving out on us. Some don’t realize how hard it is to walk on light sand. Sure, walking a long the shore is nice and all but sometimes you just want to be in the middle and dig through…works your legs out a lot more than just strolling along.

I wound up taking a nap after I got home. My legs were bothering me and by then the Midol had kicked in so I was just beat to begin with. Now I’m like wide-awake and even though I have a few more emails to go through – I’m just not in the mood to do them because I’d prefer to just lay down and attempt to go back to bed. It’s almost 3AM anyway, nothing really wrong with that – right? :eh:

Guess I’ll finish up the emails/comments. I’ll respond to everything soon – I know I have a lot to go through.

Investments

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

PPPDuring the dot-com boom I wanted to invest in Google. I was too young at the time, and no one would believe me when I told them that they had one of the greatest potentials out there. I’ve been looking into investing now, but I didn’t know where I could turn to, until I found Global Futures Exchange & Trading Co., Inc. They have a wide selection of tools to get you up and running in the investment field. For as little as $250 I got the scoop on the hottest companies, the companies that are going under, and those that have just started up. If you have any questions then email GlobalFutures@GlobalFutures.com.

Time’s a wasting!

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

I have until the 14th to get my taxes in order. I have to make it a point to fill out the W2-G form because of the gambling winnings. I printed the forms last night but I have basically no idea how to go about doing it. I figure I’ll call Dad after he gets home from work later so I can straighten everything out. I should have gotten it done this weekend but I didn’t have much of a choice considering I had all the packing to do.

I made about $6700 and I only really have to file the federal form since everything was won in New Jersey (Atlantic City). I just hope I’ll be able to get everything in on time. Baby is going on Friday to get his done, they’re a bit more complicated than mine considering he’s got “On the books” income from two places. Guess I should call Dad now, he should be home.
